More dogs are stolen in West Yorkshire than almost any where else in the country. 

More than 5,000 dogs have been reported stolen to police forces in England and Wales since the start of 2013 - with 450 thefts in West Yorkshire alone - Sky is one of those dogs.

Linton bridge gets £4.5m repair work approved

Multimillion-pound repairs to a flood-hit bridge have been approved by senior councillors.

Linton Bridge, over the River Wharfe in West Yorkshire, was damaged in the Christmas floods.

Emergency work has been undertaken but the cracked bridge between Linton and Collingham remains at risk of collapse, said Leeds City Council.

Work, which will cost £4.5m, is to start in July to put in place a river platform to work on the foundations.

Travel update: One lane closed on the westbound M62 between J28 and J27

Top award for Leeds library’s ‘elegant’ new design

A landmark Leeds building which was completed last year after a £16m development has won a prestigious architecture award for its “elegant” design.

The Laidlaw Library at the University of Leeds, by ADP LPP, has been named one of 46 winners in the Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) national awards.

The A58 Burdock Way, Halifax, is blocked and very slow traffic in both directions between the King Cross Street junction and the Burdock Way junction, because of a police incident.

Barack Obama pays tribute to Jo Cox

President Barack Obama has paid tribute to Jo Cox MP, saying she believed in “the power of people to bring about change.”

In a Facebook message Mr Obama hailed the mother-of-two, who volunteered for his 2008 presidential campaign, for her work for those close to home in her Batley and Spen constituency and further afield.

Jo Cox death: Vigil of remembrance to mark a week since MP's death

A vicar urged everyone remembering Jo Cox to "pledge ourselves to a better world" as he led a memorial ceremony just a few yards away from where she was killed.

People gathered in the market square in Birstall to mark the exact time a week ago that the Batley and Spen MP was attacked. 

More than 100 people ringed the makeshift memorial for moments of silence, hymns and eulogies led by the vicar of St Peter's Church, the Reverend Paul Knight.

We're meeting seven days on from the tragedy that hit our community when our MP, Jo Cox, was brutally killed. We're meeting today to remember her, to pray for her family and to pledge ourselves to a better world. To pledge ourselves to unity, because that was certainly one of Jo's passions."

Nathan Darby: Hunslet Hawks prop banned for anabolic steroid use

Hunslet prop Nathan Darby has been banned from all sport until February 2020 after failing a drugs test.

Former Featherstone player Darby was suspended after testing positive for three anabolic steroids during an out-of-competition test in January.

The 21-year-old joined League One side Hawks in 2015 after a trial and signed a new one-year deal in October.

'Postcode lottery' for Yorkshire coeliac patients

Patients with coeliac disease are at the mercy of a prescription "postcode lottery" in Yorkshire, a charity says.

The autoimmune disease, triggered by gluten found in foods such as bread and pasta, can cause severe symptoms.

Patients can get prescriptions for gluten-free products to help treat the illness with a strict diet.

An exhibition of photos showing a tiger that lived in Holmfirth during the 1940s have gone on display this week as part of the town's arts festival. 

Fenella the tiger came to Holmfirth at the outbreak of the Second World War after her owners, the Overend family, left South Africa. 

She became well known in the area and was often walked around on a lead!

A vigil has been held in Birstall, exactly a week after West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox was killed.

The Batley and Spen Labour MP and mother-of-two was shot and stabbed outside her constituency surgery in Birstall last Thursday.

Local residents came together to link hands from the time she was attacked last Thursday to the time she died.

Staff at the University of Leeds are on strike today as part action nationwide in a row over pay and conditions.

The action's been timed to coincide with an open day, with University and College Union (UCU) members aiming to lobby prospective students and parents, the UCU says.

It comes after members of the UCU were offered a pay rise of 1.1%.

West Yorkshire has one the highest levels of dog thefts in England, a BBC investigation has found.

More than 5,000 dogs have been reported stolen to police forces in England and Wales since the start of 2013 - with 450 thefts in West Yorkshire alone.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show a 22.6% rise in reports in England and Wales in two years.

Family 'upset' by theft of pet ducks

Lucky escape for driver at notorious accident hotspot near Honley

A driver in Honley had a lucky escape with minor injuries this morning after this crash on Woodhead Road on the notorious Alpine Corner bend at Honley and Berry Brow.

Kirklees Police say: "Please take it steady on there, especially when you can see officers and ambulance staff working in the road - it is not the Nurburgring!"

Jo Cox murder accused faces trial in Autumn

More on the news that Thomas Mair has appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from HMP Belmarsh charged with the murder of Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox.

Wearing a grey tracksuit top and occasionally taking notes, Mr Mair, 52, of Birstall, spoke only to confirm his name. When asked if he was Thomas Mair he said: "Yes I am."

He's also charged with grievous bodily harm for allegedly stabbing pensioner Bernard Kenny, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of an offensive weapon.

The hearing lasted 15 minutes, with a provisional trial date set for 14 November.

Jo Cox death: Vigil of remembrance to mark a week since MP's death

A vigil is due to be held later in the village where Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox was killed - to mark a week since her death.

The MP was shot and stabbed in Birstall last Thursday.

The church in Birstall has asked people to join hands in the market place from 12:50 - the time Mrs Cox was attacked - until 13:50 - the time she died.

EU referendum: UK goes to the polls

Polls have opened in a historic referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave.

An estimated 46,499,537 people are entitled to take part in the vote - a record number for a UK poll.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 and will close at 22:00.

It's only the third nationwide referendum in UK history and comes after a four-month battle for votes between the Leave and Remain campaigns. 

Travel update: Let's take a look at the trains

There are currently no delays or disruptions on Northern Rail, Cross Country, First TransPennine Express or Virgin East Coast trains running into Leeds Station.

As for Bradford Interchange, services into the station are running to time on Northern Rail trains.
