Attack in Nice: Leeds lawyer tells of distressing scenes

The following description of the aftermath of the events in Nice includes details some may find disturbing:

Eyewitness Simon Coates, a solicitor from Leeds, told the BBC: "I saw one woman lying on the ground talking to her dead child, as other people desperately did what they could to save their loved ones.

"As the lorry passed by me a young boy of 10 or so just managed to leap to one side and escape by inches.

"Tragically dozens of those on foot, young and old alike, were not so lucky. Virtually everyone I saw on the promenade was either dead or beyond real help with truly terrible injuries."

Cricketer who inspired PG Wodehouse's butler honoured

A cricketer who unwittingly inspired author PG Wodehouse to name his unflappable valet Jeeves, has had a poplar tree planted in his memory.

Percy Jeeves
Warwickshire County Cricket Club

Percy Jeeves, who was born in 1888 near Dewsbury, was playing in a cricket match in Cheltenham in August 1913 when PG Wodehouse "by chance" saw him play.

Liking the cricketer's bowling action, the young author would remember his name in 1916 and immortalise it.

The tree was planted today during the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, at the Cheltenham College Ground where Wodehouse saw Jeeves play.

Poem for Jo

A 10-year-old girl inspired by the legacy of Labour MP Jo Cox has written a heartwarming poem called Love Like Jo.

Eleni Taylor, from Sheffield, described the late politician as "a shining golden sun lighting up the cold grey sky" and "a beautiful flower in a field of sadness" in a tribute written the night before Mrs Cox's private family funeral.

Eleni's proud father Paul Taylor, head of support and development for one of Mrs Cox's favourite charities - the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), which is benefiting from the Jo Cox Memorial Fund, shared the poem on Twitter.
