1. Wakefield's Dr Kate Granger died in the way she wanted it, and on her wedding anniversary.

2. West Yorkshire transgender radio presenter, Stephanie Hirst, got an honoury degree from Leeds Beckett University today. 

3. We got a sneak tour of the interior of the new Eastgate shopping centre in Leeds today. It's looking good!

4. Some good news in Leeds if you like to hop on a bike now and then but don't want to buy one! Leeds is launching its second bike library this week.

5. And the Yorkshire Diamonds  cricket team is one of six teams to play in the first women's T20 Super League.

Man critically ill after crash in Dewsbury

A pedestrian is in a critical condition in hospital after a car crash in Dewsbury last night.

The incident happened at around 19:30 after the drivers of three cars; a silver Audi RS6, gunmetal grey Audi A3 and silver BMW 3 Series, were seen acting suspiciously on The Common.  

The Audi RS6 is thought to have collided with the BMW knocking down two pedestrians.

The second pedestrian has been left with minor leg injuries.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in and around the area at the time and may have seen either of the three vehicles or their occupants prior to, or immediately after the incident to come forward. In particular, I would appeal to anyone who has any information as to the whereabouts of the silver Audi RS6 which has extensive rear end damage which made off from the scene."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Ingham at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West via 101 quoting 13160318346. 

Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. 

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail.

Travel: Accident causing delays on M1 in West Yorkshire

There are long delays on the M1 southbound this afternoon.  The problems are between junctions 41 at Carr Gate and junction 40 at Ossett.

It's because of an accident.  

All lanes have now been reopened but there are tailbacks to the junction 43 M621 turn-off. 

Call to end the dumping of take-away coffee cups

Wakefield Council Leader says two and a half billion paper cups end up being binned each year because they can't be recycled.  

Councillor Peter Box heads the Local Government Association and says it results in needless millions being spent on landfill costs.

Wakefield doctor died on wedding anniversary

The husband of Wakefield doctor Kate Granger has been talking about how his wife died. Chris Pointon says his wife died in the way she wanted to and it happened on the anniversary of their marriage.

Dr Granger was diagnosed with terminal cancer five years ago.  She used her own experineces as a patient to campaign for a more user-friendly NHS.

She was 34 when she died on Sunday. This is her husband speaking to BBC Look North today.

In the five years between being diagnosed with cancer and her death on Saturday,  Dr Granger helped change the face of doctor-patient relations and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.  

Drug driver in Haworth banned

A driver in Haworth has been banned from driving for a year after testing positive for cannabis and cocaine during a roadside "drugwipe" screening.

Yorkshire cricket team to play in new women's Super League

The first women's cricket T20 league launches this summer with six teams in it. Yorkshire is one of them.

The Yorkshire Diamonds is one of six teams in the inaugural women’s Kia Super League, which is played in a round-robin Twenty20 (T20) competition over a 16-day period from Saturday 30 July to Sunday 14 August.

Work started along Eastgate and on the site of the now demolished Millgarth police station in 2014. When it's finished it will include a John Lewis store, restaurants and two covered streets and is due to open this autumn.  

Shots fired in Bradford

Shots were fired from a car in Bradford in the early hours of this morning. 

A silver Y-reg Mercedes was used in the shooting in Agar Terrace before witnesses saw it being driven away towards Girlington Road.  

The bullets hit the door of a house but no-one was injured.

Police later found the burnt-out car West Royd Road in Shipley.

Anyone who may have seen this vehicle or one of similar description in the Bradford and Shipley area between midnight and 01:40 today, is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team on 101, quoting log 0020 of 25 July or to contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to following a stabbing in Leeds  

The 23-year-old male victim received a deep wound to his chest that required surgery after he was stabbed during a fight between two groups of men outside the Electric Press building, in Great George Street, in the early hours on June 19th.

Leeds gets new bike library

Leeds City Council is opening its second Bike Library this week.  

People who live in Chapeltown will be able to jump on a bike for free when the new service is launched at the Reginald Community Centre on Wednesday. The first bike library opened at Moor Allerton Library in January this year.

Man assaulted outside Leeds train station

A man needed hospital treatment after suffering a broken nose and damaged teeth during an assault at Leeds train station yesterday.

The victim, who's from Brentwood in Essex, was waiting with a group of friends for a taxi at around 05:00 when he was approached by a group of men who asked if they could push in front of them to get a taxi to Preston.

When he said "no", the victim was punched in the face by one of the men in the group.

Girls footie tournament in Dewsbury in the fight against radicalisation

Religious leaders gathered for football games in Dewsbury this weekend, in the hope that sport can bring communities together and counter radicalisation. 

The tournament for girls took place in Savile Town and was organised by the Muslim community organisation Engage.  

Nearly 70 players took part.

West Yorkshire radio presenter Stephanie Hirst is getting an honorary degree from Leeds Beckett University today.

She is probably best known for fronting the 'Hirsty's Daily Dose' show on Capital Radio for 11 years.

Stephanie was born as Simon in Barnsley in 1975 and in 2014 announced her transition to female. 

Since then she's become an icon for the transgender community.   

Bradford student is the voice of new BBC Newsround video

A Bradford College student has become the voice of a new BBC animated short film about child refugees. 

The cartoon, called Ruth's Story, is based on fact and is about a young girl who has to flee her home country of Eritrea after being told she either has to join the military or enter into a forced marriage. 

One child refugee's journey from Eritrea - the story is told by Saleme Negussie from Bradford.

Selame Negussie, from Bradford, moved to Britain just three years ago. BBC producers searching for an East African accent contacted Selame's parents' restaurant and hired her to be the voice of the video.    

Yorkshire Day celebrations planned for Halifax

More than 200 civic dignitaries will parade through the town, led by The LA Jazz Band. The parade will start at 10:00 from Halifax Town Hall.

Travel: Slow traffic in Guiseley

Expect delays if you're driving through Guiseley. There's heavier than usual traffic on the A65 Otley Road in both directions.

Two people from Leeds die in crash on A64

Police say four people - including two from Leeds - have died in a crash on the A64 between York and Scarborough. 

The two men and two women - who are all in their 50s and 60s - were in a car which was in collision with a lorry on Friday. 


The lorry driver escaped injury.

Demolition of Prospect Mills is set to begin in Bradford this morning, with fire crews still hosing down the building destroyed in a fire yesterday.

And it has emerged one officer had to be treated for heat exhaustion while tackling ‎the fire yesterday afternoon.
