Chris Mears and Jack Laugher win second World Series silver in Guangzhou

Olympic champions Chris Mears and Leeds' Jack Laugher added another silver medal to their collection at the Fina/NVC Diving World Series in Guangzhou.

The Britons, who also  won silver in Beijing last week,  scored 86.58 for their hardest dive - the front two-and-a-half somersault triple twist piked.

They finished with 92.34 for the front four-and-a-half somersault tucked and a final score of 450.60 points.

China's Cao Yuan and Xie Siyi won gold with a score of 466.02.

Extra buses to be provided during rail strike action

The company that runs most train services in Yorkshire says it'll put on around 300 extra replacement bus services during a strike on Monday.

Members of the RMT union are walking out over plans to run trains without guards. 

The operator also says that Northern rail tickets will also be accepted on all Arriva Bus services during the strike.

Clergyman turns down Bishop of Sheffield position

A Church of England bishop has turned down a promotion to Bishop of Sheffield after his new flock protested about his opposition to the ordination of women priests.

The Rt Rev Philip North, who is currently the suffragan Bishop of Burnley, was selected as the next diocesan Bishop of Sheffield in January.

There was opposition, because Mr North is a member of the traditionalist Catholic wing of the church, which does not accept women priests.

It is clear that the level of feeling is such that my arrival would be counter-productive in terms of the mission of the Church in South Yorkshire and that my leadership would not be acceptable to many."

Rescue team awarded after saving man's life

Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team has been awarded for their "challenging" rescue that saved a man’s life last year.

The volunteers rescued a 77-year-old man who became lost on the moors on Tuesday 8 November 2016.

The man was lost near Penistone and called 999 as the cold night drew in.

They carried the pensioner over one-and-a-half miles over rough and slippery terrain in the pitch-black to a 4x4 vehicle.

East Coast Main Line: 'Chaos' reported amid delays of over two hours

Thieves steal charity boxes from church in Leeds

Burglars have stolen money from charity boxes from inside a church in Leeds.

The thieves struck on during Monday night at the Lower Wortley Methodist Church. 

After ransacking the church, they also took a laptop, an electronic Casio keyboard and two projectors. 

It is appalling that someone would target a place of worship in this way."

I'm sure their engineers can see what's wrong because I haven't got a clue.

Hour and a half delays on East Coast mainline

It's not great on the roads or on the tracks today it seems. 

If you're travelling between Doncaster and Grantham then you could be waiting an extra 90 minutes because of overhead line problems at Retford.

Driver clocked doing almost 100mph on M1

West Yorkshire Police have been catching drivers breaking the speed limit this afternoon.

They're sat on the M1, north of Woolley and have caught one driver doing almost a ton on the motorway.  

WYP say they've reported the driver, who clocked 99mph.

The University of Sheffield is offering people in Yorkshire a way of finding out some of the murkier details about their 19th century ancestors.

They've been working with universities here and in Australia to create a database of convicts sentenced at the Old Bailey.

Fracking company increases its access to Yorkshire sites

Petrochemical firm Ineos has increased the area where it can explore for shale gas in and around York.

It has struck a deal with another energy company to take over their licences.

Ineos has taken over the shale gas interests of a French energy company in Yorkshire, Cheshire and the East Midlands.

It means Ineos has access to more areas of shale gas than any other company in Britain.

Here it now has a minority stake in some of the licence areas operated by Igas and Cuadrilla - these are to the west of York and up towards Easingwold and also in to East Yorkshire.

The company already has licences in its own right for large parts of North Yorkshire. 

Primark set for Parkgate move

Primark has confirmed they're to close their Rotherham high street store, and relocate to the Parkgate retail park.

The move will create 40 new jobs, with work on the unit starting next week. There's currently building work for a Costa Coffee drive-through.  

The new unit will be in place of what was the BHS restaurant and could be opening around the start of 2018.

York City manager on sudden departure of Derwin Martina

York City manager Gary Mills has spoken for the first time since the departure of Derwin Martina.

The defender was released on Tuesday just minutes after playing for the reserves. 

That's despite him signing for the club just four days earlier and being an unused substitute in their league win over Eastleigh last Saturday.

Mills says there wasn't enough left of the season for Martina to get up to speed:

George Galloway to write children's books

Former Bradford West MP George Galloway has signed a deal to write a series of children's books.

He made the announcement  on Twitter , saying they would be about an "ethical pirate".

The title of the series is "Red Molucca and the Good Pirate" and is due to be published later this year.

Mr Galloway has already written a number of novels for adults, including the "Fidel Castro Handbook" and "Mr Galloway goes to Washington".

The company behind the £120m town centre development in Barnsley says it will build a Cineworld on the site.

York's transport boss says money pledged for roads in yesterday's Budget will "go nowhere". 

The Chancellor announced £90m to help "pinch points" on northern roads. 

But Councillor Ian Gillies, from City of York Council, says that wouldn't even cover half the cost of turning York Ring Road into a dual carriageway:
