Goodnight!

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Thanks for joining us on the live blog tonight.

Leeds improved in the second half, but it was too little, too late. By that point, they'd already left themselves far too much to do, having waned in the face of a devastating Brentford side.

Romaine Sawyers netted the opener before Lasse Vibe doubled the hosts' tally. It felt like Brentford were a world ahead from Leeds at times - but Garry Monk remains confident his side will bounce back.

We'll be back on Saturday 8th April, when Leeds welcome Preston.

Leeds need to find themselves again

I think the unity is there, but Leeds are going through a period where they need to remember what won them games: togetherness, and bravery offensively. You're a professional and you have to deal with that.

Decision-making has let Leeds down. How they handle the pressure over the next few weeks will be really telling - the advantage they have is that Leeds are always really strong at home.

Saturday a must-win now

Did Monk have to make that many changes? Or did the same people just need to work harder or play better?

Leeds are still in fifth - but they do need to start livening up. All teams have a blip - and it's better if Leeds leave it at these two games. Saturday is a must-win now. You have to put this behind you - that's the only way.

Preston are high-flying, full of confidence. It's a huge test.

Leeds lack goals from elsewhere

I think Leeds produced a bit more pressure on the goal than they did against Reading, but they can't keep turning up in just the second half.

I don't mind the way Leeds set up, but they have to be braver offensively. When did we last see a midfielder bursting through and running beyond Wood? They don't. They need to start testing defences more and giving them something else to think about - that's why Leeds lack goals from midfield.

Leeds didn't create much

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Leeds have done well all season but they've reached a point where they risk undoing their own work.

Are Brentford playing without pressure? I think you always have to worry about your results and give the fans what they deserve - there's always pressure. They were just more effective.

I felt Leeds got into good areas but I wouldn't say they were creating great chances.

GARRY MONK: I have 100% belief in this group

I know there's not a group more determined to do well for this club than what we have with us. The situation we had before is no different to the situation we have now - we just have to do it with two games less.

We decided to plead guilty with Liam Cooper for the recklessness of the incident, but not the intent - he's not that type of player. Of course, it's a blow, but the most important bit is we've suffered situations throughout the season, and it's for us to dust ourselves down and get on with it.

The group are fine in terms of injuries - the group are ready and determined. There's no one more disappointed with the last two results than ourselves. But we'll still have the same fight and determination we'll always see. I have 100% belief and determination in this group.

GARRY MONK: This changes nothing

Credit to Brentford - you can see they're a team playing without pressure and freedom, and they were exceptional. Especially second half, we needed to take some of the chances we had - if we had, it might have changed the game. This doesn't change our situation - we know what we have to do to respond.

We never like losing games and there's always things to tweak. We came up against a really good side who played exceptionally well - one of the best sides I've seen this season.

We were creating chances - good chances that we should have taken. There are no excuses and we've not had to suffer that much this season. We've lost back to back games and what this group are is determined to do well. You have to take these type of situations on the chin.

What did Mo Barrow offer?

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Very little. When you look at what Canos contributed compared to Leeds' widemen - it's no contest.

It's not harsh. You're picked to do a job and affect the game. He didn't. We saw pace once, twice, if that. Everyone is going to be marked and you have to find a way to get behind players and try one-twos.

Have Leeds been found out?

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Teams are defending across the halfway line and that's stiffing Wood and Hernandez. If Hernandez can't create anything and Wood can't score, what do they do? Leeds' midfield is too defence-minded at times, and they're not looking like a promotion midfield in terms of their goal contribution. I think they have been found out a little but they don't need to change the formation.

You could put Roofe next to Hernandez to make runs from deep - he'd be a good target to flick balls onto.

Leeds not reacting quickly enough

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Leeds have the players to play passing football but they are too defence-minded. Roofe plays the ball out wide, but then gets back into the box - he has that element of surprise to make runs that catch defenders cold.

It's about the second phase of play, too. They reacted well for both goals - but where were the Leeds players? The Leeds midfielders are always outside the box.

Why were Brentford so good?

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It was movement from players, and quick passing. Leeds had two defensive midfield players, but they couldn't cope with the number of players running off the back of them. Leeds get the ball and they just try and put it forward to Chris Wood - there are no midfielders.

Brentford had a 4-3-3, but the amount of pace their wingbacks generated was frightening. It made overloads, but it was the movement and the runners that killed Leeds.

What else went wrong?

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It's just the fact Leeds are missing opportunities and not creating enough. I think creativity was the main difference - Leeds couldn't handle Brentford's movement and quick-passing. They had far more ideas in the final third. They had two solid centre halves who can compete, then a holding midfielder in Ryan Woods who liked to get the ball and look up. Canos was a threat all day.

Who did play well?

Monk gave the same team the chance to go out and rectify their first half mistakes. It was a better second half, but Rob Green is the only one who can emerge from that with any real credit. The rest of his team mates were massively below par.

Leeds too predictable

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Are Leeds too obvious? I think they are. They need more movement and players need more freedom to mix things up again. Two defensive midfielders doesn't work well for me - they need one to run with Wood, pick balls up on the edge of the area. Only having Hernandez is too predictable.

Wood too isolated

Chris Wood is going to be well-marked, as he's the main target. He's just not getting opportunities at times - it felt like his name was hardly mentioned.

Brentford were a very good team and it baffles me that they are where they are - unless they've massively raised their game because Leeds are in town.

How worried should Leeds be?

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

You can't win games by playing one half. Brentford deserve credit but are we surprised by how they played? It was exactly what we expected. Loads of pace, loads of energy, loads of movement - there shouldn't have been any elements of surprise. Leeds have done their homework and they knew Brentford had loads of danger men - but they didn't get close.

It was a lesson in attacking, movement and creativity - Brentford produced magical play to create two goals. They have players who move better than Leeds'. Leeds' players were too rigid at times.

BreakingFULL TIME: BRENTFORD 2-0 LEEDS

Pedraza lays off for Wood. Wood gets the shot away but Bentley is there with a high-five worthy save. Dean complies and the whistle goes as their hands touch. Leeds have fallen to back-to-back defeats now - stay with us for all the post-match reaction.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Roofe has just tried to do too much at times - he's running past players while trying to keep the ball at his feet, and then he's left trying to keep it in. Brentford are still attacking in droves.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Hernandez tries to find Bartley but the pass is poor - and Bartley must offer a heavy challenge to try and retain possession. Leeds' frustration is obvious now.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Foul from Phillips bang in the middle of the park - but the offside flag is up on Vibe.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Rob Green pumps the ball up the park quickly but - you know the score by now - Dean is there.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Four added minutes here.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Pedraza moves infield and finds Doukara. He looks for Berardi on the run and plays in a difficult ball from little space, but Brentford break rapidly and Vibe angles a shot at Green. Bartley must block the rebound and hand Brentford a corner.

You watch this Brentford team and you just think, how are they twelfth?!

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

When you think about some of Leeds' decision-making - it has been so poor. It might be because they're 2-0 down, but that's what happens when you start poorly.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Berardi drills the ball across goal - Brentford goal kick.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Ryan Woods has been down a hatful of times in a two minute spell. He's coming off now - and Konstantin Kerschbaumer replaces him. Leeds win a free kick - and Sawyers goes into the book for trying to stop Leeds taking it. Harlee Dean wins the header and manages to stop it going out for a corner. Leeds throw.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Hernandez's corner goes out before it lands in the box.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Roofe and Doukara work up the flanks but Brentford win possession back. They chip it to nobody, though, and Berardi scoops up the danger. Roofe nutmegs his man and executes a low shot - it's on target, but Bentley produces extra limbs to deny the Leeds man and turn the ball around the post. Leeds corner.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Roofe pumps the ball back into the box from a Leeds corner, but who's there? Dean, of course.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

It's just instinct from Harlee Dean to put himself in good positions where he has the best chance of clearing the ball. He's got in the way of everything - and he's standing firm now as Leeds try and respond.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Jansson clears - but Brentford are back at it seconds later. Reflex double-save from Green to deny Vibe from a one-on-one, and then Jozefzoon - I'll never know how he pulled himself back up to tip the second shot out for a corner. Leeds clear, but Vibe races down the right. Leeds struggling again and Brentford are sensing blood.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Brentford free kick on the edge of the area - Phillips loses control of the ball and lunges into Bentley. 18 yards out - and Jota whips it round the wall for Green to tip over.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Canos off, Florian Jozefzoon on. McCormack cautioned for a vicious foul on Pedraza.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Brentford have not done much this half. Leeds have given things a go, but have lacked in the final third. They've had shots, headers that Wood had mistimed - but they've not made any clear opportunities.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Rob Green clears under a little pressure but Brentford spray the ball out immediately. Roofe takes a tumble and knocks the ball out of play, but Sawyers wins a free kick as he draws a foul from Phillips.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Noel Whelan

Ex-Leeds United striker

Bridcutt's been one of the better performers today - I would have thought Monk would have taken Phillips off.

Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Jota slices the ball wide of the Leeds goal from distance - as Doukara replaces Bridcutt.
