Nearly 50,000 people missed their medical appointments last year at the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Trust.

In an effort to combat the problem, Mid-Yorkshire now sends a text message reminder to patients, as well as a letter.

This comes as new figures show the number of people waiting for routine surgery in England in June was the highest in almost a decade.
