Public and media urged not to speculate on boy's identity

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

Police are keen to make sure the young boy's identity remains unknown to safeguard him and protect his right to dignity.

Det Ch Supt David Sandall
Leicestershire Police

Det Ch Supt David Sandall is Head of Crime and said: "The boy was subjected to a serious assault and is now courageously trying to rebuild his life.

"We can all support him in that process by not trying to second guess further details about the case or sharing rumours on social media.

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

I've got a bit more information now on this crash in Melton.

There is no structural damage to the building.

Police praise victim's courage

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

Det Insp Tony Yarwood led the investigation into the assault at Wash Brook Nature Park and believes Jetha went out that day with a sole and deliberate intention of finding a child to attack.

He says: “The evidence gathered against him by a team of highly experienced and determined investigators was overwhelming, and it was the sheer weight of that evidence that I believe helped persuade him to plead guilty in court today.

He also praised the young boy and his family for having the courage to report what happened, describing them as showing "immense courage and strength".

Riders still top BBL

BBC Leicester Sport

Leicester Riders made it another hugely successful weekend for Leicester's top sports teams by beating Plymouth University Raiders 92-68.

Tumble dryer advice 'not good enough'

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

A charity called Electrical Safety First is trying to support and advise people with these potentially dangerous tumble dryers.

Emma Apter from the organisation says: "There are lots of these tumble dryers out there and we're seeing time and time again people are having fires caused by them.

"The advice being given out by the manufacturer is that it's still alright to use them as long as you're staying with them when you're using them. From our perspective, that's not good enough."

Customers told not to leave the machine unattended

Amy Woodfield

BBC Local Live

This isn't the first time we've heard about tumble dryers causing fires.

Dryers made by Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit between 2004 and 2015 have been identified as a potential safety risk because they allow lint to build up against the heating element.

The company claims the dryers are still safe to use but they ask owners to clean the filter every time and not to leave the machine unattended.
