Teen attacker's 'excessive' sentence cut

A Leicester teenager who was jailed after attacking a woman during an 18th birthday party has had his sentence reduced by eight months on appeal. 

Louie Michael O'Leary,19, from Thurnby, was part of a gang of three teenagers who caused chaos at the celebrations last August. 

He admitted affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 20 months' youth detention in February.

But judges said that was "excessive" because he didn't start the violence or have the knife used in the attack.

Woman hit by bus on Charles Street

A woman has been taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary after being hit by a bus, police have told BBC Radio Leicester. 

Charles Street in the city remains closed. 

Biker killed in A52 crash named

A motorcyclist who died in a collisionwith a car on the A52 in Bottesford yesterday has been named.

25-year-old Christopher Williams who lived in Derby, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured but a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Grade II* St Michael’s church in Brooksby, Leicestershire has had its Historic England listing enhanced, as part of the 100th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Jutland.

Leicestershire's elite performance director Andrew McDonald has been looking ahead to his side's T20 fixture with Yorkshire tomorrow night.

The 'shooting' is being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police, here's what it has had to say: 

At this stage it appears the substation was struck by a projectile, most likely fired from an air rifle. Damaging an electricity substation is a mindless and dangerous act which also has the potential to impact on the electricity supply to many houses in the nearby area."
