Wet start to the weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain until 21:00 tonight.

It says there could be localised surface water flooding.

Their chief forecaster says: "Where these heavy showers occur, localised accumulations of 15 to 25 mm in an hour and perhaps 30-40 mm in two or three hours are likely. 

"Thunder and lightning is also possible, though not to the extent which was seen around the UK earlier this week."

All 'crow-ing on' in Countesthorpe

The fire service have been to the rescue of a crow that got stuck in a chimney cowl in Countesthorpe.

After getting advice from the RSPCA they removed the cap from the chimney and left the crow to hopefully make its own way out.

Kayleigh Haywood trial: 'I was petrified'

In a statement, one of Harlow's neighbours described hearing a "loud girl's scream" and banging the night before Kayleigh was murdered.

Kayleigh Haywood trial: Prosecution suggests struggle took place

The prosecution in the trial of Stephen Beadman and Luke Harlow has spoken to jurors about what witnesses say they saw. 

They claim to have seen Kayleigh Haywood trying to run away and Beadman grabbing her outside the house. Harlow was said to have had a cut on his face and his glasses were broken.

Jurors were asked: "How had that happened?" 

The prosecutor said: "Does it help you decide whether Kayleigh was willing and happy to be there or was there a fight or a struggle, which she wanted to escape from?"

The jury at Nottingham Crown Court today has heard how Luke Harlow was messaging other under-age girls before getting in contact with Kayleigh.

The prosecutor read out some of the messages, which referred to kidnapping girls and keeping them as slaves. 

One message to a 15-year-old girl said: "Having sex with drunk unconscious girls is my favourite.".

Both deny false imprisonment. The case continues. 

Kayleigh Haywood trial continues

The trial of two men accused of falsely imprisoning murdered Measham schoolgirl Kayleigh Haywood is continuing today.

The 15-year-old was found dead in undergrowth near Ibstock in November, five days after she went missing.

Stephen Beadman has already admitting killing and raping Kayleigh. Luke Harlow has admitted grooming her online and two counts of sexual activity with her. 

Both deny false imprisonment.

Union claims teacher recruitment crisis could worsen

A teaching union says it's unhappy with the city council's plan to create 1,000 more primary school places. 

The NUT say there is a teacher recruitment crisis in Leicester and this could make it worse.

New classrooms to be created

Sarah Russell from the city council says increasing the amount of primary school places will "meet a growing need" but also give parents more flexibility.

So how will they make space for the extra classes? Ms Russell says: "We're doing things like looking at where there's been IT rooms. Most schools now use mobile technology in classrooms so they no longer need a whole ICT suit to fit a classroom in. 

"That can now be used as a general teaching classroom."

Travel: M1 crash cleared

Three injured in M1 crash

We've had some more information from the fire service about this crash on the M1 at J21.

It involved four vehicles and three people have been hurt.

East Midlands Ambulance Service has assessed the two women and one man but they are not going to hospital.

Two of the cars have left the scene but the other two are still there waiting to be recovered by the police.

Council to invest in more school places

Plans to create more than 1,000 new primary school places are set to be approved by Leicester City Council.

The project is costing more than £3.5m and involves 40 schools in the city.
