Weather: A cooler night

Still the chance of a heavy thundery shower through the early part of the night. These should gradually ease with clear spells and also a few mist patches forming. 

A minimum temperature of 16C (61F). 


Tomorrow will then be mainly dry with some sunny spells. A few showers may develop through the afternoon, which could be locally heavy.

A high of 23C (73F).

It'll be the fifth year of the carnival this year and Amanda says it's going from strength to strength.

This year the festival is on Jubilee Square on 27 August. Organisers try to make the event embrace all cultures through different art forms.

Youngs keeps England recall 'in sight'

Leicester Tigers hooker Tom Youngs has been talking about the upcoming season and getting dropped by England.

He played 22 times for his country before Eddie Jones came in to manage the side.

Youngs says he hasn't given up hope on getting the call to return: "I don't think you could ever lose sight of it, I think you've always got to keep another goal there of getting back into the England side."

Man appears in court charged with murder

The 20-year-old man accused of murdering Adam Bent in Leicester on Saturday has been in court.

Cameron Fields from Gresley Close in Leicester was remanded in custody. 

He's now expected to appear at Leicester Crown Court tomorrow.

You often hear about elderly people being victims of scams and Age UK says it's the doorstep ones that are the biggest problem, along with telephone calls for banking fraud.

Emily Foskett is from Citizens Advice Leicestershire and says:"If you receive anything in your inbox or a phone call or post that you're not expecting that's the first warning sign really that you should take into account.

"Are you expecting that mail? Is it something you've signed up for? Should they have your contact details?"

Scammers target online and door-to-door

One man in Beaumont Leys told BBC Radio Leicester he nearly payed £10,000 for a car on Ebay before he found out it was a scam.

Another person said: "Two weeks ago two young men came to the house, they said they were collecting on behalf of someone's house burning down on this estate. There was no identification whatsoever.

"I said it's my brother's house that burnt down - I said their names and they walked off."

As a whole for the East Midlands the jobless count has fallen by 1,000 to 106,000.

Less good news about benefit claims though - the amount of people seeking jobseekers' allowance between March and May increased by 400.

Another soldier dies in training in Brecon

A soldier died yesterday while training in the Brecon area south Wales on Britain's hottest day of the year so far. 

The senior corporal from The Rifles regiment was preparing to undergo a Platoon Sergeants Battle Course.

One was L/Cpl Craig Roberts who was a University of Leicester graduate.

Loughborough centre helps thousands of dogs

Ella Tongue works for The Dogs Trust in Loughborough and says they get a lot of "countryside dogs" like terriers at the East Midlands centre.

Since they opened in 2012 they've cared for nearly 4,000 dogs - that's about three dogs every day.

Barbara Grant-Bennett from the Beaumont Lodge Neighbourhood Association has been talking about an elderly gentleman in the area who was scammed.

She said: "My late husband and myself got involved because we were very concerned for him but he was a bit stubborn because he didn't want to seem that he was stupid."

She said it all looked very plausible with headed paper and an PO Box address.

Loughborough MP rejoices in unemployment figures

Nicky Morgan says the latest figures show there were 633 unemployed claimants in Loughborough in June 2016.

She says that is 1.3% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64 and is 35 lower than in May 2016.

Charity celebrate birthday

You'll probably have heard of the charity called The Dogs Trust- they have a headquarters in Wymeswold near Loughborough.

Well they're celebrating their 125th anniversary.

The centre in Loughborough only opened in 2012 but the charity began in 1891 as the National Canine Defence League.

Work to restore the clock faces is expected to take five weeks. The restoration of the clock inside is then expected to be finished at the end of the year.

Some areas of Leicester seem to have become hot-spots for financial scammers. 

Citizen's Advice Leicestershire say more people in the LE4 area are falling victim to con artists than most other places in the country.


That's the Beaumont Leys, Belgrave, Birstall and Thurmaston areas.

Foxes captain signs a new club contract

The clock in the church tower hasn't been restored since 1876. Locals had to fundraise for that restoration but they didn't raise enough to do the carillon as well.

So the bit that plays the music has been there since 1792.

Well now police are telling us they've been released on bail. The burglaries happened on Monday just half an hour apart.

Colin Bent is the clock keeper and deputy church warden at St Mary's Church.

He's been working on this project for 11 years now.

"This stage is exciting for many people around the town because many have donated to this project."
