McDonald: Win was right one day 'formula'

Happy ending for Leicestershire 'Zika' couple

A couple living in Leicestershire, who said their unborn baby was at risk of Zika virus if they were forced to leave the UK, are being allowed to stay to have their baby.

Daisy Santiago from Brazil and her fiancee Simon Ellis live in Kegworth. 

The government had previously refused to extend Daisy's visa. In Brazil, the Zika virus can cause underdeveloped brains in babies. 

But now the couple say they are very relieved the Home Office is allowing them to stay to the end of October, by which time the baby will be born. Afterwards they plan to marry and live in Brazil.

Road closed following crash

Three people have been injured in a crash involving two vehicles in Countesthorpe. 

One of the casualties has been airlifted to hospital following the collision on Foston Road just before 09:00.

Foston Road is closed while the cars are recovered.
