It's the only north-south line in the country not to be electrified.

Inside Leicester Railway Station

Earlier this week the Department for Transport announced which three companies were in the bidding for the East Midlands Rail franchise, which will start in 2019.

By then the line from Corby to London will be electrified - but what about the rest of the line?

Today's report demands major projects must get independent assurances that future electrification plans are actually worthwhile for passengers.
