Victoria Atkins defends new Bill of Rights

BBC Look North

East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

For a long time the government has been talking about replacing the Human Rights Act with a "British Bill of Rights".

The full details are due to be published in "due course", subject to a consultation. We probably won't see any more before the EU Referendum.

However the MP for Louth and Horncastle, who sits on the Home Affairs Committee, says it'll be up to scratch when it emerges.

Grimsby Town boss 'not tempted away from Blundell Park'

BBC Humberside Sport

Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst has said he has had no offers to "tempt" him away from Blundell Park.

Hurst, 41, had been linked with Notts County despite leading The Mariners back to the Football League for the first time in six years.

He is currently preparing the squad to face FC Halifax Town in the FA Trophy final on Sunday.

There is nothing to tempt me. I've had a chat with the board, I've got a rough idea of what we're about and then set about building a squad that we can still be proud of.

Lincoln Prison report highlights increase in rats and cockroaches

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Prisons have dominated much of the Queen's Speech today in Parliament, it comes as Lincoln's Prison watchdog publishes its annual report.

A couple of interesting points were flagged by the Independent Monitoring Board, they found that:

  • There are significant delays transferring patients with mental health problems to proper facilities
  • High levels of self harm and "legal high" use
  • Increase in rats and cockroaches around the kitchen, toilets "generally extremely filthy"

However despite the challenges over the past twelve months the IMB says the prison is continuing to demonstrate an improved performance.

Lincoln to Birmingham 'pie in the sky'

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

We told you earlier about calls for a new, direct rail link to Birmingham from Lincoln train station.

Most people, as you'd expect, are all for an extra rail link but David Mitchell from Lincoln's Federation of Small Businesses says the priority has to be improving existing routes from other areas.

The sight of a single carriage on a Saturday morning arriving from Grimsby to Lincoln with 120 people on it is shocking, Forget all this pie in the sky thinking, however laudable it is, concentrate on the present moment and get a better rail service.

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Unless you've been hiding under a crocodile rock then you'll know that Sir Elton John is coming to Lincolnshire next month.

We all suspected the concert at the Lincolnshire Showground would prove to be a hit - however the event's organisers say it's exceeded their expectations.

They were hoping to sell about 15,000 tickets but currently over 17,000 have bagged their seats for the show.

Direct link between Lincoln and Birmingham, any thoughts?

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

There are calls for a direct hourly rail service to Birmingham.

The Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership says the route could be worth millions to the local economy every year.

The East Midlands Rail Franchise is up in March 2018, so that's the earliest it could realistically be brought in.

Here's a few highlights from a report commissioned by the LEP:

Someone must have been planning a barbecue because it's looking cloudy with outbreaks of rain for most of the morning.

The rain will become more showery by this afternoon, with heavy downpours in places.

The wind however is going to rather light and slow so it won't get too cold.
