Crowdfund bid launched after lifeboat fire

A crowdfunding bid's been launched to raise more than £40,000 for a new Skegness inshore lifeboat after the current vessel caught fire and sank. 

Jon Payne's started a JustGiving page after hearing about the incident off the resort in the early hours of this morning.

Appeal after woman assaulted on doorstep

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman in her 60s was punched in the face when she opened her front door late at night.

The incident happened at around 23.00 on Monday 9 May when the victim was at home on St Martins Close in Blyton, near Gainsborough.

The offender, who ran off following the incident, is described as a white man, around 5ft 10in in height, aged in his mid to late twenties, of slim build and wearing a light grey hooded top with the hood up.

The victim suffered bruising and swelling to the face. Any information should be passed to police on non-emergency number 101.

Man in court on rape charges

A Boston man's due in court today charged with two counts of rape. Sergejs Susorovs, who's 26 and from Edwin Street, is due before Lincoln Magistrates.

It's alleged the offences took place on Wednesday afternoon near the railway track on London Road.

 Lincolnshire Police are appealing for witneses.

New council chairman takes up post

County councillor Martin Trollope-Bellew has been elected the new Chairman for Lincolnshire County Council

Mr Trollope-Bellew represents Stamford Rural and lives in Barholm. He's been on the council for 19 years.

He said: "I am particularly interested in the growth of small businesses and during my time as Chairman will help promote the rural economy in all its forms, from farming to leisure and tourism."

A17 crash: Air ambulance crews release picture

This is a tweet from the air ambulance charity which covers Cambridgeshire - called out to the crash on A17 yesterday.

A 56 year-old man remains in critical condition in Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre and a 44 year-old man continues to be treated in Addenbrookes Hospital for serious injuries.

Funeral for teenager killed in motorbike crash

The funeral's taking place today of a teenager who was killed earlier this month when his motorbike collided with a farm vehicle in Lincolnshire.

His funeral will take place later this afternoon.

Lifeboat sinks after fire at sea

The crew of the Skegness inshore lifeboat had to swim ashore in the early hours of this morning after a major fire destroyed their boat. 

The RNLI have confirmed that the blaze broke out as they were called out to search for a missing person. All three crew abaondoned the sinking vessel and swam the 200 metres to shore.

None of them were injured. The boat was destroyed and a replacement inshore lifeboat is now being sent to Skegness. The RNLI says it can't comment any further on the cause of the blaze. 

The resort's all-weather lifeboat and the coastguard helicopter continued with the search for the missing person who was later found safe and well.   

Detective: Sex offender was the Jimmy Savile of the scout world

Ex police officer and former scout leader John Bates has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for sex offences against boys at Lincoln Crown Court.

The detective who brought the former police officer and scout master to justice has been reacting to the sentence. During the trial Bates, 68, was described as the Jimmy Savile of the scout world.

Speaking outside court Detective Sergeant Tim Wilkinson said: "He's a very cold kind of man and I support the comment that he is the Jimmy Savile of the scout world.

"Even the victims who have come forward say what a good scout master he was, they looked up to him and respected him and all he has done is cause misery and upset."

Officers want to speak to the offender about this raid in Rowland Road and another which happened on Cottage Beck Road last Saturday morning around 04.30.  

More patients like Jessica being sent miles from home

When 21-year-old Jessica Wilson, from Louth, needed mental health treatment the furthest she thought she'd have to travel was Nottingham.

In face, she had to go to Roehampton in London - 170 miles from home.

Pair wanted after pensioner robbed at cashpoint

Police in Scunthorpe want to speak to these two people after a 91-year-old was scammed out of more than £1,000 at a cashpoint.

Officers say the victim became confused at Lloyds TSB in the town's High Street, and tried to withdraw money from a depositing machine.

A man and a woman then approached and helped him find the cash machine and watched as he took out some money.

They then told him his card had been swallowed by the machine and he left. They then used the card to withdraw cash and buy £500-worth of jewellery in a nearby shop.

We've just heard from Lincolnshire Police about a crash at a crossroads near Lincoln. It involves two vehicles and is at the junction of the A1500 Till Bridge Lane and the B1398 Middle Street, near Scampton. The road's likely to be closed until further notice.

A17 crash: Update on injured

The driver of a military truck which was involved in major crash near Boston yesterday remains in a critical condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, police say. 

The accident which involved four MOD-type trucks and a lorry, happened at Swineshead and closed the road for nine hours.

Another driver is still being treated in Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridgeshire for serious injuries. The driver of the articulated lorry is also still in hospital.   

Woman in critical condition after incident at house

Police have cordoned off a house in Grimsby after an incident which left a 22-year-old woman in hospital.

A 27-year-old man was arrested when officers were called to Rutland Street at around 20.30 last night

A police spokesman said: "The woman was conveyed to Hull Royal Infirmary where she is currently receiving treatment. Her condition is described as critical but stable.

"Police cordons are in place in connection with this incident and enquiries, including house to house calls are underway."  

Council faces call to reverse 22.00 switch-off
