Thousand complain about rogue landlords

Councils in Lincolnshire have received nearly 6,000 complaints about privately rented homes and landlords in the past five years according to new figures obtained by the BBC. 

But while notices have been served on rogue landlords there have been fewer than 20 prosecutions across the county.

Housing charities warn unscrupulous landlords are providing vulnerable tenants with overcrowded and unsuitable homes and getting away with it.

Train trouble: Replacement buses at the ready

We've just heard from Virgin Trains East Coast who say the East Coast mainline won't get back to normal until tomorrow.

Vicky just sent in this picture. 

She's on her way from Retford station to Lincoln. Five rail replacement buses are queuing up.

No trains are running between Grantham and Doncaster at present as repairs take place on overhead power lines near Retford station.

Police looking for van driver who failed to stop after collisions

Police are appealing for help in tracing a white Ford Transit van and its driver after it's alleged to have collided with three other vehicles in Lincoln city centre yesterday.

The van was travelling from Silver Street, turned right onto Broadgate and then travelled on to Canwick Road at around 14.20. 

No injuries were reported.

Appeal to find missing Grantham man

Police have just issued this picture as part of an appeal to find a missing man from Grantham.

Vlaceslav Ciskovskij, 31, is also known also Slav.  He was last seen on the 23 May at a friend's house in Castlegate, Grantham.

Car thieves strip car down after failing to drive it away

Police are appealing for information after a Land Rover was targeted by thieves who dismantled it on the owner's driveway and stole a number of parts.

The dark green Defender was parked on a driveway in Southfields in Binbrook near Market Rasen last night.

A police spokesman said: "It is thought the offenders were unable to steal the entire car as it was parked behind another vehicle.

"Instead, they stole a number of pieces of the Land Rover, including the bonnet, doors, lights, and engine parts."

Lincolnshire Police has just released these pictures from an illegal rave at Twyford Woods, near Grantham, which happened in May 2015.

The police were called to the scene to try and end the event - and violence broke out, leaving officers injured.

A spokesman said: "Work is ongoing to bring to justice all those responsible who took part in any kind of criminal offences ."

Train trouble: Virgin boss apologises for major delays

The managing director of Virgin Trains East Coast has apologised on Twitter for major delays to rail services through Lincolnshire caused by damage to an overhead line.

The company says delays are likely to continue for the rest of the day.

Steelworkers 'can expect pay rise next spring'

Scunthorpe steelworkers can expect their regular salary again from next April, according to the Community Union. 

Staff at the plant took a temporary 3% cut in pay and pension contributions in April to protect jobs at the site.

It's because of damage to overhead lines. It's causing delays on services through the county.

Appeal after Lincoln street assault

An appeal's being made for witnesses to an assault in Lincoln. The police say three men were involved on Scorer Street yesterday afternoon.

The victim - a 44 year old man - wasn't seriously hurt. 

The group took his bicycle and stamped on it causing damage before dumping it.   

£5,000 grant for landlords to get tenants into homes

Landlords in part of Lincolnshire are being offered £5,000 to help them get empty homes back on the market. 

Grantham-based South Kesteven District Council says hundreds of properties in the area are long-term unoccupied.

The council says landlords will only be able to charge rents at a local authority approved rate to ensure the houses are affordable for local people.

Investigation after shop fire at Ingoldmells

A shop's been completely destroyed after a fire overnight at Ingoldmells. 

It happened at a building on the corner of Roman Bank and Sea Lane in the resort.

No one was injured. But Steve Moore, station manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, told BBC Radio Lincolnshire that Buddies Bar had to be evacuated after the blaze broke out in the shop below.

He says an investigation will begin later.

Parish council takes plunge to save community pool

A community-run swimming pool at Metheringham, near Lincoln that was threatened with closure has been saved for now - thanks to the efforts of villagers.

The management team at Metheringham Swimming Pool blame a fall in visitor numbers and a lack of funding. 

The parish council's now given £2,000 to help keep it going for a while following a meeting with volunteers and parents.
