Magna Carta removed from display over fears from humidity

There are temperature problems at the £1.5m vault built to house Lincoln's copy of Magna Carta.

The historic document from 1215 and the city's Charter of the Forest have had to be moved to another location because of concerns about humidity levels.

Lincolnshire County Council says it's working to fix the issue and is offering visitors to Lincoln Castle reduced ticket prices until the document is returned.

Mariners' fans rally to raise money for one of their own

A website page has recorded £800 raised for a Grimsby Town fan who needs treatment for an illness.

Graham Holness, who's a member of the disabled supporters club, has been a Mariners fan for over 40 years but has recently become ill. 

A Crowdfund website page has now started to raise £5,000 to help pay for things like travel costs during his treatment.

Police searching Humber after reports of body

BBC Radio Humberside

Humberside Police helicopter is up over Barton upon Humber, Joshua Cook from Radio Humberside has given them a call and they say there have been reports of a body in the water.

The marine unit and force helicopter have been deployed to the River Humber, close to Waterside Road, Barton, following unconfirmed reports of a body in the water."

Cold case arrests over missing woman

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating the disappearance of a woman 10 years ago.

Karen Black, 36, from Worksop, was last seen in Cleethorpes in November 2006.

The men aged, 40, 45, 54 and 58, have arrested after a review into the case by Nottinghamshire Police.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact the force.

The first round of voting in the Conservative leadership election has got under way. Of the five contenders, the Home Secretary, Theresa May, appears to be the current front-runner.

Overpaid parking raises thousands in King's Lynn

Drivers in King's Lynn have overpaid tens of thousands of pounds when parking in the town. 

Ticket machines don't give change so the council has received £70,000 more in parking charges than it should have done. The authority says it has no plans to install new machines.

Lincolnshire film-maker takes on cycling safety

Film-maker Phil Crow from Lincoln is concerned about the number of collisions involving cyclists with five deaths in the past year. 

He's made a safety video hoping to reduce the number of injuries to cyclists on Lincolnshire's roads along with Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury.

Magna Carta removed from purpose built-vault in Lincoln Castle

The Magna Carta has been removed from its purpose-built, multimillion-pound vault because of problems with the humidity.

Along with the Charter of the Forest it has been moved to an undisclosed location as a precautionary measure.

The documents are removed from display now and again to prevent over-exposure.

We're working quickly to restore the vault to the optimum temperature for the documents, so that they can be returned. In the meantime, all our other attractions are open as usual at Lincoln Castle and we are offering a 10% reduction on our all-inclusive ticket

Victoria Atkins declares support for Theresa May

The Louth and Horncastle MP is no longer on the fence on who she wants to become the leader of the Conservatives and next Prime Minister.

She's just issued a statement saying she'll be backing the Home Secretary Theresa May for the top job, joining the Sleaford and North Hykeham MP Stephen Phillips who gave his backing earlier.

I have worked closely with the Home Secretary since my election as your Member of Parliament in my roles on the Home Affairs Select Committee and the two committees that scrutinised the Investigatory Powers Bill."

Shallow attendance could close pool

There are fears for the future of a Lincolnshire swimming pool. 

The community pool in Heckington near Sleaford is struggling to attract enough swimmers.

The pool has attempted to drive up attendance in the past, most notably last year in September when they ran sessions for dogs and their owners.

It'll cost 20p to spend a penny in Lincoln

The City of Lincoln Council has approved 20p charges to use three of its public toilets. 


City of Lincoln Council said charging for facilities at Lucy Tower Street, Castle Square and Tentercroft Street could bring in about £30,000 per year.

It said the changes were part of a range measures to meet savings targets of £4m per annum by 2018/19.

Footage has been used as evidence to prosecute drivers and to resolve insurance disputes.

Fire damages former restaurant in Grimsby

Firefighters are damping down after a large fire took hold of a former restaurant in Grimsby overnight. 

The Little fields restaurant building on Littlefiled Lane had been vacant for some time after the owner retired in January. 

The fire service say they received the call just before 20:00 and five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene.

Strikes close Lincolnshire schools

Some teachers are on strike today as part of national action by the NUT.

Most schools in the county won't be affected, but some - including North Scarle primary and Old Leake primary will be closed.

Ken Rustidge from the union says the strike is necessary because schools stand to lose hundreds of thousand of pounds in funding

Teachers are suffering from massive workloads because of funding pressures. In addition to that there's been a teacher recruiting crisis in Lincolnshire, the government knows this and is exacerbating things."
