Illegal ravers jailed over attack on police at Twyford Woods

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Ten ravers, who were among a mob that attacked police attempting to close down an illegal event at Twyford Woods, were today jailed after admitting being involved in the violence.

The court was told that 26 police officers were injured in the violence in May last year at the Forestry Commission site at Twyford Woods alongside the A1 in the south of the county.

Officers were punched and kicked and had missiles including bottles and scaffolding poles, thrown at them and at one point ravers sprayed police with diesel fuel.

Eleven other defendants were jailed yesterday.

We must 'face Brexit with optimism' says Lincolnshire 'Remain' MP

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

Conservative MP Matt Warman, who's holding a meeting with his Boston and Skegness constituents later, says it's important to be positive moving forward after the UK voted to leave EU last month.

Mr Warman supported the Remain campaign but his constituents returned the highest proportionate vote for Leave in the country.

Mr Warman outlined some of the things he wants to address at the meeting in Blackfriars Theatre at 17:30 this evening:

Partly people are concerned about how it's going to work and they have a right to get the best answers we can give them now, but also I think we need to explain that this is a longer term process and hopefully I'll provide some of those answers tonight.

Lincolnshire district 'safest place to live'

Carla George

Reporter, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

For the third consecutive year, North Kesteven is being dubbed the safest place to live in England and Wales.

The district council says it's all down to the crime rate.

During the past year there were fewer crimes in the district than anywhere else in the country.

Young ringers from around Lincolnshire, some of whom recently took part in a national competition, will be at Lincoln Cathedral tomorrow to ring the bells.

The youngsters are used to ringing six or eight bells, but this isn't some small church in a sleepy village we're talking about here, this is Lincoln Cathedral and they have 12!

Bin charge consultation: Your views

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

We told you earlier about the consultation East Lindsey District Council have launched about green waste.

They say they need to save £6m by 2020 and they've given residents five options to choose from, one of which is a £10 annual price increase.

You've been in touch to have your say:

It's ridiculous, we already pay council tax and green bins should be included in that. I don't and won't pay for it.

Emma WrennFacebook

Good value, I would pay up to £100 year. A good service in my opinion.

Paula MeedsFacebook

It's a joke. What do we pay our council tax for? It won't be long before we are paying for general waste and recycling to be collected as well!

Emma MiddletonFacebook

An ELDC consultation for a tenner? Near the top of a list of First World, money-wasting problems. Let those who can afford this ridiculous convenience pay for it.

Listen: Cleethorpes 'booming' despite property prices claim

BBC Radio Humberside

There are claims that Cleethorpes is on the up, despite property website Zoopla naming it as the seaside resort with the biggest fall in house prices.

Zoopla says property values in the resort fell by 5.5% over the past year to an average of £126,331 - the biggest annual drop in Britain.

But businesses in Cleethorpes say it's actually a resort with a booming economy.

Andrew McCluskey runs the Kingsway Kiosks café on the seafront and says big events have helped.

Companies say visitor numbers are increasing thanks to major events in the resort

Green waste charge rise could be on the cards for East Lindsey

Alex Rhodes

BBC Lincolnshire Live

If you live in East Lindsey you may have to pay more to have your green waste collected.

Residents are being asked to choose from five options which include a £10 annual price increase or fewer winter collections.

It's to help plug a £6m funding gap by 2020.

East Lindsey District Council says the results of the consultation will be taken into account before a decision is made.

The latest from the Lincolnshire newsroom:

Hospital trust under fire for discharge delays

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Hospital Trust has come under fierce criticism for delays in discharging older patients from hospitals.

The chair of parliament's public accounts committee, Meg Hiller, wants the government to bring in new measures to deal with the issue.

She says all the delays are adding up and areas of our county look poor in comparison to other parts of the UK:

In Northumbria their delayed transfers by days across the year is 10 which is very good, but in Sleaford and North Hykeham in Lincolnshire it's nearly 18,000 days of delayed transfer.
