Lincolnshire haulage firm calls for more female drivers

Natasha Turney

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

How many women lorry drivers do see out and about on the county's roads?

Well it seems not many, as representatives from the haulage industry in Lincolnshire are backing calls for the sector to clean up its act in a bid to attract more female drivers.

It's as a report from the Transport Committee says it's "too dirty, too male and too expensive" to attract new drivers.

In particular they say the government should do more to attract women and those from ethnic minorities to take up the job.

I don't think they're put off I think its just never occurred to them. You go round schools and they're offered options of what to do... nobody goes to the girls and says do you want to be a truck driver."

Last day to have your say on mayor for greater Lincolnshire

Natasha Turney

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

It's all about devolution, getting more money from the government to spend locally in Lincolnshire as councillors see fit.

However that money comes with a condition that we have a directly-elected mayor for greater Lincolnshire. A mayor would have control of an annual budget of £15m to spend on big projects such as roads and transport, but do you want one?
