Goodbye: Five things we learned today

 Local Live has finished for today. 

We're back from 08:00 tomorrow with more news from around the area. 

Until then...here's five things we've learnt today:

  1. As one road opens, another closes in Lincoln as the High Street is pedestrianised in the city
  2. A candlelit vigil is to be held outside Grantham hospital - to protest against the overnight closure of its A&E
  3. A man's being treated for a serious head injury following an incident in Skegness
  4. The Lincoln City striker Matt Rhead could be fit for tomorrow's trip to Dagenham and Redbridge
  5. Chart topper Jess Glynne outsold Sir Tom Jones at this year's Rasen Rocks with an audience of 14,000

Appeal after seaside attack

Police are appealing for information after a man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries.

The incident took place in or near the Summerlands Pub on Roman Bank, Winthorpe at around 12:30 am BST in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man in his 40 is receiving treatment for his injuries in hospital.

Football: Imp's boss hopes Rhead will be fit ahead of tomorrow's trip to East London

Lincoln City's Danny Cowley says he's hopeful striker Matt Rhead will be fit for tomorrow's clash against Dagenham and Redbridge FC.

The Imps' leading scorer limped off holding the back of his leg just 18 minutes into Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Sutton United.

BreakingGainsborough tradesmen urged to lock their tools

Police in Gainsborough are warning tradesmen to lock up their tools.

It's after a series of thefts from vans in the area in recent weeks.

Sergeant for Gainsborough, Mark Talbot, is also asking van owners to report groups acting suspiciously in the area.

Man jailed after kebab shop assault

A 22-year-old man who punched and kicked a man outside a takeaway in Lincoln has been jailed. 

Lincoln Crown Court heard that Jordan Holt of Cherry Willingham was drunk when the incident happened on Clasketgate.

The victim was left with serious injuries. Holt admitted grievous bodily harm and has been jailed for 16 months.

So London 2012 gave us "Super Saturday"...now Rio 2016 has delivered a "Sensational Sunday" - five Gold medals for Team GB, on Britain's best day at an overseas Olympics. 

And in gymnastics, Max Whitlock struck Gold twice in two hours - in the men's floor competition and on the pommel horse, where team-mate Louis Smith took Silver. 

No British gymnast has ever won an Olympic Gold medal, till now.....

But could our Alex Rhodes be the next to make history....here he is preparing for Tokyo 2020......

Poppies on the Prom took place in Mablethorpe for the first time this weekend. 

The event took place on Mablethorpe’s Central Promenade and included this fly past of a Spitfire.

Beauty duo leave den empty handed despite positive reaction

Two businesswomen from Lincoln say they're determined they will succeed despite being knocked back by the panel on Dragon's Den. 

Beauticians Paula Short and Rachel De Caux appeared on last night's show to ask for investment in their glitter lipstick.

Farmers asked for views after Brexit

Hundreds of farmers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are being asked for their views on the future of agriculture after Brexit.

Thousands of farmers are expected to share their views on how the industry should progress after the referendum.

Football: BBC Sport gaffe puts Pilgrims ahead of Trinity

Despite picking up no points so far this season, BBC Sport has given the Pilgrims one point, putting them "ahead" of Trinity in the league table.

Both teams lost this weekend, Boston United losing 4-1 away at Darlington and Gainsborough 4-1 away at Gloucester.

Arrests after stolen car recovered in Skegness car park

Two men have been charged after a stolen vehicle was found in Skegness.

The Ford Ranger was recovered in the Festival Car Park on Thursday last week.

Stephen Jones, 35, of, St James Court, Lansdwone Road, Leicester, was charged with handling stolen property, dangerous driving, disqualified driving and driving with no insurance.

Scott Crooks, 37, of Gleneagles Avenue, Leicester, was charged with handling stolen property and making off without payment for fuel from a filling station in Skegness.

Boston man accused of murder is remanded

A man accused of the murder of his neighbour in Boston has appeared at Lincoln Crown Court. 

Vidmantas Svendarauskas, 60, of Porcher Way is accused of killing Manfred Jaedke in July.

He's been remanded in custody until his next court appearance. A provisional trial date has been set for December.   

Vigil planned over restrictions at Grantham Hospital's A&E department

A candlelight vigil will be held this week in a bid to save Grantham Hospital's A&E department.

It's after the trust in charge of Lincolnshire's hospitals announced it would temporarily close the unit from 18:30 each evening.

ULHT say the reason for the change in opening hours is due to a reduction in the availability of doctors at Lincoln and Boston.

But Councillor Charmaine Morgan, who organised a demonstration at the hospital on Saturday, says it will put lives at risk.

The vigil will take place from 18:00 on Wednesday until midnight (00:00).

'Biggest crowd since war' at Rasen Rocks for Jess Glynne

More than 14,000 people watched Jess Glynne perform at this year's Rasen Rocks.

The event, at Market Rasen Racecourse, outsold even Tom Jones, who performed last year in front of around 13,000.

General manager, Nadia Gollings said it was a fantastic event.

She added: "What was nice to see was that most people came for the racing and the concert and she really did put on a fantastic show."

It's the biggest crowd at the racecourse since World War Two.

Two teenagers have been arrested following a firearms incident in Lincoln. 

The police say a high-powered air rifle was fired from the window of a house in the Boultham area of Lincoln last night. 

A 17-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man are being questioned.

The number of people calling themselves Christians is on the up

The number of people describing themselves as Christian now stands at the same level as it was seven years ago.

Recent decline appears to be halting according to the latest British Social Attitudes Survey. 

It's as congregation numbers are apparently going down - but here at St Swithin's in Lincoln - numbers have grown from 7 to 250 in the last two years.

New road opens to ease congestion in Lincoln

Motorists will be able to use the new east-west link road in Lincoln for the first time today. 

The £22m road provides a direct link from the High Street to Pelham Bridge and Canwick Road, meaning traffic can bypass the city centre level crossings.

At the same time work starting to pedestrianise part of Lincoln High Street.

But don't expect disruption to end anytime soon as temporary signals are still in place and work isn't due for completion until November.
