Our live coverage across the day

Carla George

BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Local Live has finished for today.

We're back from 08:00 on Monday with more news from around the area.

In the meantime....here's five things we've learnt today:

  • A Lincolnshire woman who used the identity of her two dead babies to falsely claim benefits has been jailed for three years. Maria Pridmore was described in court as a 'Walter Mitty' - a serial fraudster who also stole money from vulnerable friends and acquaintances.
  • A Skegness church says it's handing out 2 or 3 tents and sleeping bags a week to homeless people.
  • Campaigners are considering legal action over a decision to close A&E at Grantham Hospital during the night.
  • Lincolnshire's new-look Spitfire was unveiled earlier today. It's been out of action while engineers took it apart to check it over and repaint it silver.
  • Boston United could have up to 7 players missing for tomorrow's match at Chorley. The midfield pair of Callum Chippendale and Lewis Hilliard have joined the ever growing injury list at York Street.

Landlord who 'put money ahead of the lives of his tenants' jailed

Carla George

BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

A 'penny pinching' landlord has been jailed for five months after failing to equip his properties with adequate fire safety.

Around 20 people escaped a fire at the property on Bursar Street in Cleethorpes after a fire started on the ground floor - but no fire alarm sounded in August 2014.

Peter Kelson QC said the Ken Newsham was ‘more concerned with his own wealth than the welfare of his tenants’ and said it was ‘good fortune that no-one died’

Landlord Ken Newsham today pleaded guilty to four counts of not providing an adequate fire assessment, working fire alarms, or sufficient fire doors.

He was also ordered to pay £100,000 in costs.

Cheating mum jailed after using dead children to claim benefits

Carla George

BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

A mum who lost 16 babies was today jailed for three years after she used two of her dead children's identities to claim benefits.

Former nurse Maria Pridmore, 36, of Angel Lane, Holbeach, suffered 14 miscarriages, a stillbirth and the death of an infant son over a 13-year period.

Lincoln Crown Court heard she continued using the dependent child, named Kia, to claim benefits even after his death at two weeks in December 2009.

She is a Walter Mitty, but she hasn't always been. She was a nurse. Her personality seems to have totally changed since she had a stroke.

David EagerMitigating

She also made other claims relating to a stillborn baby and another child who was not living with her, receiving more than £16,000 worth of housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support.

In total, Pridmore fraudulently claimed £10,019.05 of housing benefit, £5,510.74 in income support and £1,401.27 in council tax benefit.

The court heard the former nurse was also a serial fraudster who had also conned more than £30,000 from four women.

Over 300 cars targetted by thieves

Carla George

BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

307 cars were targetted by thieves across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire in July according to Humberside Police.

They say the number of thefts from cars is partly down to people forgetting to wind windows up after a journey.

Vehicle security is as good as it has ever been however vehicles being left unlocked for thieves to search at their leisure or high value property being left on display is too tempting for opportunist offenders.

NHS England have been answering questions from the public about the controversial closure of the children's heart surgery unit at Leicester's Glenfield Hospital.

Families from Lincolnshire who use the unit reacted angrily to the news when it was revealed last month.

Senior directors at NHS England took questions from Leicester's health and Wellbeing Board.

It's been claimed that NHS England has set targets and then shifted the deadlines for those to be met - something they deny.
