Father and daughter die in crash

A man and his 15-year-old daughter died in a car crash in Croydon on Friday, police have said.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, officers named them as John Maguire, 53, from Streatham, south London, and his daughter Enya from Kenley in Surrey.

£100 coin

A new £100 coin featuring London's Elizabeth Tower, which houses Big Ben has been minted to mark the start of the new year,

reports Newsround.

The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales, has produced 50,000 of the special coins.

The coins, which contain 56 grams of silver, will be available at the value of £100.

Car crashes through wall of family home

A man is considering leaving his home of almost 40 years after

a car crashed through the wall into his front room on Sunday.

Paul Etheridge, 65, was woken by a crash "like a bomb hitting" his home on Grange Road, between Upper Norwood and Thornton Heath, at 4am on Sunday morning.

Plane lands safely

A Virgin Atlantic passenger plane has landed safely at Gatwick airport after developing problems with its landing gear,

reports the Press Association.

'Hash brownie poisoning'

Ambulance workers were called to give medical assistance to

eight people who were "spaced out" after eating hash brownies in south London.

Paramedics were called to the house in Purley, Croydon at about 19:30 last night to treat eight people who were reported to be unwell.

Egyptian Embassy protest

Friends and colleagues of Al-Jazeera journalists Peter Greste, Baher Mohammed and Mohammed Fahmy held a protest outside the Egyptian embassy in London earlier to mark a year since their incarceration by Egyptian authorities over terror charges.


Vegas-bound plane turns back

passenger plane is trying to land back at Gatwick airport after reports the aircraft has a landing gear problem.

The plane took off from the West Sussex late this morning bound for Las Vegas.

A Gatwick spokesman said: "There is a Virgin Atlantic aircraft looking to return to Gatwick."

Reduced service between Leeds and London

Network Rail boss 'may take bonus' after disruption

The man responsible for the UK's railway network, Mark Carne, has said his staff have failed to live up to the public's expectations -- and has apologised "unreservedly" to passengers who've had their journeys disrupted over Christmas.

Anti-semitic attacks

27 cars were vandalised and some houses were daubed with "offensive graffiti" in north London,

say police in Hackney.

The anti-Semitic attacks happened in Osbaldeston Road, N16 between Sunday, 28 and Monday, 29 December. No arrests have been made.

Man charged over flat murder

A man has been charged with the murder of a woman found dead in a flat in east London.

The 34-year-old, named by police as Somali national Abdulqadir Abdullah, is due to appear before magistrates later.

Officers found the body of a 40-year-old woman inside a flat at Denning Point on Commercial Street, near Aldgate East, after being called to a disturbance there on Saturday night.
