Unsafe HGV operators fined

London's Industrial HGV Taskforce has issued 1,013 Fixed Penalty Notices to the drivers of unsafe or non-compliant HGVs

since it began operating in October 2013.

Set up by Transport for London, the Department for Transport and the Mayor of London, the taskforce has carried out more than 200 road side operations over the last 16 months.

Two rescued in Battersea blaze

A block of flats in Ingrave Street, Battersea, was the scene of another fire this afternoon as two people were rescued by ladder,

the Wandsworth Guardian reports.

The London Fire Brigade was called just after 12:30 to a fire in a second floor flat, the paper says.

Shots fired in north west London

Firearms officers were called at 12:49 to reports of a male with a shotgun in Gloucester Close in north west London,

Scotland Yard says.

Shots were fired into two addresses by the suspect, but no one was injured.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in custody.

Dead cyclist identified

A cyclist who died in a crash with a lorry at Amhurst Park in Stamford Hill, Hackney, has been named

by Scotland Yard as Stephanie Turner, 29, of Michley Road, Tottenham.

The 47-year-old driver of the lorry, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to return in early April to a north London police station pending further enquiries.

Blind woman was sexually assaulted

British Transport Police detectives are

issuing images of a man they want to speak to after a blind woman was sexually assaulted on the Tube.

Ansar Mahmood, 40, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and threatening a person with a bladed article.

Two men are in hospital with injuries, one of them critical,

after a stabbing in Kensington earlier.
