Sinitta 'told barefaced lies' in reality TV star assault case

Singer Sinitta had told "barefaced lies" and suggested that former footballer Ashley Ward had cheated on his wife when she was allegedly attacked by a reality TV star at a restaurant, a court has been told.


Real Housewives Of Cheshire star Dawn Ward, 43, is accused of attacking the So Macho singer and acquaintance - whose full name is Sinitta Malone - during a heated talk aimed at clearing the air between them, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

Businesswoman Claire Johnson, who is also known as Caudwell, attended the April 2015 champagne lunch meeting at a central London restaurant which had been arranged by Sinitta.

She later told police that Sinitta had been "accusatorial, aggressive", and had been "critical" of Ward, "questioning her marriage and the fidelity of her husband".

Mrs Ward, who is married to the former footballer, denies one count of common assault.

Nearly 20 years since Royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned, a model of the famous ship will take centre stage at the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations.

Puppeteers will carry the yacht in a parade down The Mall on Sunday as part of a lunch to celebrate the Queen's role as patron of dozens of charities and organisations.

Ala Lloyd, creative director for the patron's lunch, gave the BBC a tour of the model.

Watch: Man tries to rob bookmakers with a gun

CCTV of the moment a man attempted to rob a bookmakers in Wembley using a gun has been released by the Met.

The man is seen entering the shop in Court Parade on 4 June and walking up to the counter where he told the cashier to empty the till.

No shots were fired and the man left empty handed.

Police believe the same man was involved in another robbery at a bookmakers in College Hill Road, Harrow on 31 May, where he handed over a note demanding money from the cashier and made off with a quantity of cash.

Det Con John Richards said Scotland Yard "urgently want to find" the man and appealed for witnesses.

Leyton Orient name Andy Edwards as assistant boss

League Two club Leyton Orient have appointed Andy Edwards as assistant manager.

The 44-year-old will work alongside Andy Hessenthaler, who was appointed as Orient boss last week.

Former Southend, Birmingham and Peterborough defender Edwards joined the east London outfit in 2009 and has been coaching in the club's academy.

The club also announced the signing of defender Callum Kennedy following his release by AFC Wimbledon.

The 26-year-old left-back, who made 24 appearances for the Dons last season, has signed a one-year deal with Orient.

Labour MP Kate Hoey, who supports the UK leaving the European Union, said "one or two more" of her colleagues, "perhaps quite senior ones". will be joining the Leave side.

And the Vauxhall MP told Daily Politics presenter Andrew Neil that the Conservatives "will have a new leader whatever happens" after the 23 June referendum.

Soldiers put on surprise for Queen's 90th birthday at Liverpool Street station

There are three days of celebrations in London to mark the Queen's official 90th birthday. 

At Liverpool Street Station, RAF Northolt  put on a special surprise in honour of the country's longest reigning monarch.

Stalker sectioned for breaking into Lily Allen's bedroom

A mentally ill stalker who broke into pop star Lily Allen's bedroom, forcing her to leave the family home for good, has been sectioned by a judge.

Alex Gray's criminal campaign of abuse also involved contacting the British singer on social media, handing her offensive letters and a "romantic CD", and accusing her of "stealing" lyrics he had written.

The 31-year-old, of Perth, showed no emotion as he was handed an indeterminate hospital order and restraining order for burglary and stalking at Harrow Crown Court.

Polling cards were wrongly sent to 3,502 EU citizens who are not allowed to vote in the EU referendum, the Electoral Commission has announced.

Four-hundred and ninety-three EU citizens wrongly received polling cards in Southwark while 419 people got them in Hackney.

Man in critical condition after more than a dozen shots fired from automatic weapon

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot several times by somebody using an automatic weapon in Newham last night.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called to the shooting in Beatrice Close, Plaistow, at about 23:20 on Thursday where they discovered the wounded man.

Scotland Yard believe the suspect, who is thought to be an Asian man, around 30 to 40 years of age and of large build, fired more than a dozen shots from the weapon.

Det Insp Glenn Butler said "the use of automatic weapons" on the streets of London was very rare and appealed for witnesses to contact police.

Since the tournament began in 1960, players from London clubs have scored a total of nine goals for England.

Chelsea have contributed three goals while players from Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham have all scored two goals each.
