Manchester trainer shopper scam thief hands himself in

A 17-year-old boy who ran away with cash given to him by a trusting shopper has handed himself in to police.

Trying to bypass a store's rules preventing anybody buying more than one pair of limited-edition trainers, the shopper asked two strangers for help. 

He gave them £260 but, after becoming briefly distracted, discovered that the pair had vanished with the money from the shop in Market Street, Manchester.

A Jet 2 flight travelling from Newcastle to Lanzarote diverted to Manchester Airport "as a precaution" following a fault with the landing gear.

A spokesman for the airline said: "The aircraft has landed safely and passengers are currently being transferred onto a waiting aircraft.

Football fans warned there will be no trains to Manchester after FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley

Manchester United fans planning to head to Wembley for the FA Cup Semi-Final on 23 April have been warned to check the trains before they travel.

With Network Rail due to carry out planned improvement works to the West Coast Main Line that weekend, the 17:15 kick-off time means there will be no trains back from London Euston to Manchester after the game, Virgin Trains has warned.

Cancer drug company relocates to Alderley Park in Cheshire

A pharmaceutical company is to move almost 100 jobs from Liverpool to Alderley Park in Cheshire.

Redx Pharma, which develops anti-cancer drugs, is currently based in the Royal Liverpool Hospital's Duncan Building, which is due to be demolished next year. 

They already employ about 100 people at Alderley Park and another 88 jobs will relocate from Merseyside.

The Civil Aviation Authority has published its final report into how safety regulations will be tightened at UK air shows following the disaster on 22 August, where 11 people were killed when a vintage Hawker Hunter jet crashed on to the A27.

Organisers of the Manchester Airshow have blamed the timing of the review on the cancellation of its event this year.

A flight from Newcastle Airport which took off at 09:30 bound for Lanzarote made an "unsheduled landing" at Manchester Airport, a spokesman for the airport said.

The University of Manchester plans £350m engineering campus

Plans for a £350m engineering campus for the University of Manchester have been submitted to the city council.

It would be built on a site equivalent to 11 football pitches between Oxford Road and Upper Brook Street.

The University says 1,300 academics, researchers and support staff will move to the new campus and almost 7,000 would be based there.

Manchester Airport sniffer dogs find 'cheese and sausages' but no class A drugs

The use of sniffer dogs at Manchester Airport has been criticised after dogs there failed to discover any class A drugs in a seven-month period.

But one dog, trained to detect illegal animal products, often found "small amounts of cheese or sausages" carried by holidaymakers, a report said.

The Home Office said improvements "need to be made" after the review, by the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration.

No immigration checks for Manchester Airport flight, report finds

More than 100 passengers were allowed to land and exit Manchester Airport without going through immigration checks, a report has found.

The review, by the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, revealed an incident in April 2015 where 147 passengers on a Ryanair flight which landed at Terminal 3 were able to get through immigration without being checked - because the flight was not displayed on the arrivals screen. 

Manchester Airport Group and Border Force has told the inspector that procedures for flights arriving late at night have now been reviewed.
