A Hungarian man who is subject to a European arrest warrant is "believed" to be working in Bolton under an alias, Greater Manchester Police said.

Istvan Mikes, 42, from Pecs is wanted by the Hungarian authorities for grievous bodily harm and robbery after a man suffered life-threatening injuries when cash, china and jewellery were stolen from his house in Hungary.    

PC Paul Holding, from GMP's Bolton Division, said the wanted man is thought to be using the alias Robert Horvath.

A man who orchestrated the shooting of a man outside a Greater Manchester pub has been convicted of his murder

City legend says receiving CBE was like playing for England

Former Manchester City and England footballer Francis Lee, 71, has received a CBE from the Queen for services to football.

The Bolton-born forward said: "I have played for England and being out there on the pitch when they play the National Anthem, today felt like that."

Lee, who set a record for the number of penalties scored in a season with 13, ran a successful toilet roll manufacturing business when he retired.

Fire breaks out on 15 acres of Saddleworth moorland

A fire broke out on 15 acres of moorland in Greater Manchester. 

Firefighters were called to the Dove Stone area near Saddleworth at about 20:45 GMT on Thursday.

Crews battled high winds to bring the blaze under control and scaled the incident down at about 22:30. They left the scene earlier.

There was no threat to wildlife or nearby properties, said a fire spokesman. An investigation into the cause is the blaze is under way.

Crash closes road in Chelford

A man who committed several violent armed robberies has been jailed for seven years and two months at Manchester Crown Court. 

Louis Taylor, 24, from Spindletree Avenue, Blackley, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to committing four armed robberies over four days in September 2015.

Three-legged cat found 45 miles away from home

A three-legged cat who was missing for five weeks has been found 45 miles away and reunited with her worried owners.


Brandy, an 11-year-old tabby whose leg was amputated when she was two, snuck out of her home in Macclesfield.

She was found with scratches on her body and underweight on an industrial estate in Liverpool and traced via a microchip.

Her owner Tracy Lake said she was "ecstatic" when she picked up a message from the RSPCA that she had been found.

Woman blinded after street attack in Wigan

A 23-year-old woman was left blinded in one eye after she and her partner tried to intervene in an attack on a man in Wigan. 

The woman was punched in the left eye in the attack, which happened on Little Lane, just before midnight on 9 April.

The mistake, which is down to a measuring error before the 2013 event, affects about 24,000 runners.

UK Athletics will not now recognise times from those races, but the error was corrected in time for this year's marathon, which was held on 10 April.

Grass fire breaks out near Dovestones Reservoir

Fire crews are still damping down at Dovestones country park near Saddleworth after a grass fire overnight.
