Four members, including one of the club's founders Adam Brown, have already left - with general manager Andy Walsh leaving in the summer. 

The club has also been forced to make a public apology to another of its founders, John-Paul O’Neill, for allowing “misguided rumours” to spread over his involvement in threats to club staff.

Lightning strike hits Wigan home

A family escaped unhurt after lightning struck their home in Wigan.

The strike left a huge hole in the roof and set fire to the loft.  

Firefighters from Hindley put the blaze out which started at about 19:20 BST on Thursday.

Newlove killer loses High Court bid to have sentence reduced

A man who murdered a father-of-three outside his home in Warrington has lost a renewed bid to be released early from prison.

Jordan Cunliffe was 16 when he was jailed for a minimum of 12 years in 2008 after Garry Newlove, 47, was kicked to death in Warrington in 2007.

Mr Newlove died in hospital two days after being attacked by three people.

Jordan Cunliffe, now 24, was jailed for a minimum of 12 years in 2008 after Garry Newlove was kicked to death in Warrington.

Mr Newlove, 47, suffered head injuries in the attack by three teenagers and died in hospital two days later.

Cunliffe's case was rejected, meaning he will have to wait until the summer of 2019 - before he can apply for parole.

GMP firearms officers drop by around 30 per cent, figures reveal

New figures from the government have revealed that Greater Manchester Police has a third fewer firearms officers than it did six years ago.

But GMP has announced it will have a record number of special constables in the force when 62 new recruits officially sign up next week.

Concern for two missing teenagers

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for two teenagers missing from home in Bolton.

Thirteen-year-old Jake Alder was last seen on Wednesday afternoon in Hulton.

It is thought he may be with 14-year-old Shyanne Neild, who was last seen at school in Bolton the same afternoon.

Health watchdog places surgery in special measures

A GP surgery in Leigh has been rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission.

Direct Access in Leigh was found to be particularly lacking in the provision of safe, effective, well-led services after an inspection in February. 

The surgery, which has been placed in special measures and will be inspected again in six months, says it is already taking steps to address the issues.

Sport: No provisional suspension for Bury cyclist despite failing drugs test

British cyclist Simon Yates will not be provisionally suspended despite failing an in-competition drugs test.

Yates tested positive for terbutaline last month, with his Orica-GreenEdge team blaming an "administrative error" over the use of an asthma inhaler.  

The sport's governing body said the 23-year-old had not been suspended because of the nature of the substance involved.

Investors sought for new city centre development

Eight thousand new homes may be built near Victoria Station in Manchester. 

Manchester Place - a government-council run partnership focused on speeding up the supply of new homes across the city - is in the process of seeking investors. 

The project would see the development of 300 acres over a 10-15 year period.
