Two people arrested in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl who took ecstasy on a night out have been released on bail.

Faye Allen died after suffering an adverse reaction to a form of the drug known as Mastercard.

She became ill at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford on Monday. A man and a woman, aged 19 and 20, who were held on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, were released until 1 July.

New memorial to WW1 railwaymen unveiled

A new memorial to 87 railwaymen who died serving in World War One has been unveiled at Manchester Piccadilly railway station. The previous memorial was lost during redevelopment of the station in the 1960s.

Arthritis drug 'may increase diabetes risk'

Researchers in Manchester say a drug used for arthritis may increase the risk of diabetes.

Glucocorticoid therapy - a type of steroid - is commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.  

A study by the University of Manchester found that people using the steroid for long periods, or at high doses were at risk of developing the disease.

More than 400 people have signed a petition to save their local pub which is due to be turned into a vet's surgery.

Paul Quinn, tenant landlord at The Bull's Head in Smallbridge, Rochdale, said the first he knew of the plan was when he saw the planning notice on a lamp post outside.

Regular Debbie Rhodes said its closure would be a big loss to the local community.

But a spokesman for the property's owners Prontoserve said a vets surgery is needed in Smallbridge and would bring jobs to the area.

Two people have been bailed by police after they were arrested on a drug charge after the death of a teenage girl, who took a form of ecstasy known as "Mastercard".

Faye Allen, 17, from Liverpool died in the early hours of the bank holiday, after a night out at Victoria Warehouse in Trafford, Greater Manchester. 

A man and woman, arrested on Tuesday in St Helens, on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug, with intent to supply, were bailed until 1 July.  

Traffic congestion halting Northern Powerhouse, claims MP

An MP is calling for urgent action to tackle traffic congestion on roads to the south of Manchester. 

Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Mary Robinson, the Conservative MP for Cheadle, said, if the government wants to create a "Northern Powerhouse", there must be more investment in transport in the region.

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with "serious but not life-threatening injuries" after a collision with a car in Pendlebury, Greater Manchester Police said.

The biker was injured in a crash at the junction of Bridge Street and Bolton Road at about 08:58 and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Man remanded over murder charge

A 37-year-old man has appeared at Bolton Magistrates Court accused of murder after a body was found in a reservoir.

Greater Manchester Police believe the body pulled from Yarrow Reservoir at Rivington to be that of Darren McMinn, who was reported missing in Bolton last month. 

Candido Pereira, 37, of Chorley New Road, Bolton was remanded in custody.

Two people injured in tram crash

Two people were injured after a van and tram collided in Oldham on Tuesday evening.

A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesman said the collision took place near King Street at about 21:55.

The North West Ambulance Service said two people were taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital - it is believed their injuries were minor.

Greater Manchester Police said the van driver "failed to stop" at a red light.

Man charged with reservoir body murder of Darren McMinn

A man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in a reservoir near Bolton.

The victim has not yet been formally identified but police believe it is missing Bolton man Darren McMinn, 48. His next of kin have been informed.

The body was recovered from Yarrow reservoir in Hodge Brow near Rivington in the early hours of Tuesday.

Candido Pereira, 37, of Chorley New Road, Bolton, will appear at Bolton Magistrates' Court later.
