A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in Salford more than ten years ago.

Paul Croft was beaten with a baseball bat in an alley near the Lord Nelson pub in Pendlebury on 24 March 2005.

The 19-year-old died in hospital from head injuries seven days later, weeks before the birth of his twin sons.

Following an investigation by Greater Manchester Police's Cold Case Unit, a 27-year-old man has been arrested and bailed, pending further inquires, police said.

A man has suffered a serious leg injury after his leg became trapped between a tram and the platform, dragging him along the platform.

An investigation is underway to establish what happened.

Green Flag for Bolton park after £5m restoration

Bolton's Queen's Park has been awarded a Green Flag after a £5m restoration.

The money has been used to dredge the lakes, repair walls and a fountain and create a new café and play area, as well as refurbishing the tennis court and games area.

The defender, 21, returned to action at the weekend after his injury in a Champions League game last September. 

"When I had my first game on Saturday, I felt so emotional," said Shaw. "It's the best feeling ever. "There was a fear of how long it was going to take or whether I would play again. 

Now I am looking forward to pre-season and getting fully fit."

Sweet maker invents Parma Violet flavour cheese

Traditional British sweet maker Swizzels has invented a limited-edition Parma Violets cheese. 

The family-run confectionery manufacturer, which launched the purple sweets in 1946, has teamed up with The Cheshire Cheese Company to produce its first cheese inspired by sweets.

A woman has died after being hit by a bus in Salford.

Police were called to East Lancashire Road shortly after 18:10 to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a bus.

Officers found a woman believed to be in her 70s with very serious injuries. She was taken to hospital where she died at about 19:40.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
