A real crocodile in Altrincham? Yes, it's true....

Greater Manchester Police have now explained this reptilian mystery. And for those asking, it is indeed a real crocodile - albeit stuffed.

It turns out the formidable beast was discovered by an elderly man who was clearing out the house where a relative had died.

A police spokesman said: “It’s a real crocodile from Kuala Lumpur in the 1900s.

“There were other stuffed animals – I don’t know what they were exactly.

“The bloke said the crocodile was too big to fit in a car.

“Our PCSOs posed for a picture with the crocodile and helped the gentleman on his way."

Elderly warned of internet modem cash scam

Elderly people are being warned by police not to fall victim to a telephone scam involving fraudsters posing as internet providers.

People in parts of Cheshire, including Warrington, have been targeted by a caller telling them their modem was not compatible with their computer, and they were owed £200.

They were then told they had been mistakenly transferred too much money, which they needed to repay.

Bradley Moore: Two boys bailed in Ashton-under-Lyne murder probe

Two teenagers charged with the murder of a man who died after an alleged assault outside a McDonald's restaurant have been granted bail.

Father-of-four Bradley Moore, 43, died in hospital after being found with serious injuries in Warrington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, on 27 July. 

Four boys - aged 12, 16, 16 and 17 - have been charged with murder. 

The 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were granted bail at Manchester Crown Court earlier. One 16-year-old boy remains in youth detention custody.

A 44-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Moore may have been hit by a car, police say.

Police appeal after van stolen in knifepoint robbery

A courier driver's van and parcels were stolen in a knifepoint robbery in Blackley, prompting a police appeal.

The driver was in Victoria Avenue East on the morning of 6 July when a man opened the van door and put a knife to his stomach and ordered him out, police say.

The robber got into the driver's seat and drove the vehicle away. The van was abandoned in a nearby estate and a large number of parcels were stolen.

Police have issued an image of a man wanted in connection with the incident.

Black Lives Matter: People share views on march

A march takes place in Alexandra Park in Manchester tonight for Black Lives Matter, coinciding with other events elsewhere in the country.

Radio Manchester presenter Karen Gubay asked people for their views on the demonstration.

Songwriter Ruby Ann Patterson said she wants to "show solidarity for black people" after watching the shocking videos from America, which showed police killings of black people. 

"People were really moved by them", she said.

Shirley May, director of Young Identity, a group of young Manchester poets and performers, said: "What we are concerned about and what we are seeing is that racism and racism towards people who are black is still prevalent."
