Police force apologises over Nazi uniform photo tweet

Greater Manchester Police has apologised after tweeting an image of two men dressed in Nazi uniforms standing next to a German military vehicle.

The picture was shared from Greater Manchester Police (GMP)'s official traffic account on Sunday.

The tweet was captioned: "M62 J22 On the west Yorkshire border. These two likely lads trying to invade".

The former Barr soft drink factory site in Atherton, Wigan, is set to be transformed into a £35.5m housing development.

Developers have bought the land and will build 194 two, three and four-bedroom properties in conjunction with Wigan Council.

Work on the project, called Cottonfields, is expected to start this month.

A man who attacked a 70-year-old man who asked him to stop urinating against the wall of his partner's house has been jailed for 15 months.

Stephen Glynn, 46, left Derek Laidlaw with a broken nose and bruises to the head during the assault in Failsworth, Oldham, on 2 July.

Glynn, of Massey Avenue, Failsworth, had previously admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

He was sentenced at a hearing at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.

It looks like things are moving with the Paul Pogba deal. The midfielder has turned up to Manchester United's Carrington training ground for his medical, in a convoy of cars.

Boy, 16, badly hurt in 'brutal hammer attack'

A 16-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a "brutal" hammer attack at a park, police said.

It happened shorty before 18:00 on Friday on Chapel Street Park.

The boy remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, Greater Manchester Police said.

Greater Manchester Police said it is thought he was hit with a hammer and appealed for witnesses to get in touch.

Manchester United are on the brink of re-signing Paul Pogba from Juventus in a world record £89m deal.

United will pay 105m euros for Pogba and performance-related bonuses and other costs could see that figure rise.

The midfielder will have a medical in the next few days with the deal due to be completed in midweek.

The 23-year-old, who left United for £1.5m in 2012, is set to return for a fee that surpasses Gareth Bale's £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Man critical after shooting in Harpurhey takeaway

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot in Harpurhey last night.

The 27-year-old was hurt after shots were fired from outside a takeaway in Rochdale Road, Harpurhey at about 23:20.

He is undergoing surgery for suffered life threatening injuries, police said.
