GMP criticised over personal details request

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been criticised by a judge for handing over personal details about an officer from the Met Police during an internal investigation

The Met requested Andrea Brown's travel details through a unit staffed by Greater Manchester Police officers, quoting a law which did not exist.

Andrea Brown sued both forces, citing a breach of human rights and of data protection.

Damages have yet to be assessed. GMP has acknowledged the court's findings.

Hedge crash victim was 'kind and generous'

A man who died in a crash in Altrincham was kind, loving and generous spirit, his family said.

Stephen Glynn, 53, died after his car hit a garden hedge in West Timperley on Tuesday.

Mr Glynn's family said he had "left a huge void that can never be filled".

Plans to expand Jodrell Bank site are approved

Plans to expand Jodrell Bank headquarters which has the world's biggest and most sensitive radio telescope have been approved.

The Square Kilometre Array will see antennae in Africa and Australia managed from the Cheshire site.

A new building will see the team working on the project at Jodrell Bank more than double to more than 150 people.

Warrington Post Office will be relocated

A Post Office has confirmed that it will close a branch in Warrington and move into the back of WH Smith later this year.

Football: West Ham 'interested' in signing Man City's Bony

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is "interested" in Manchester City's Wilfried Bony following injuries to Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew.

Strikers Andy Carroll and record signing Andre Ayew are both injured, with the Croatian manager adding his team "are short of numbers".

Bony, 27, moved to the Etihad from Swansea in January 2015 and has 10 goals from 20 starts.

Bilic said the Ivory Coast player is an option for his side because "he plays in the position we are looking for".

Rugby Union: Former player to sue Sale over concussion

Former Sale Sharks player Cillian Willis is to sue the club alleging clinical negligence over a career-ending concussion.

Willis was twice treated for a head injury in a game with Saracens in March 2013, but was allowed to keep playing.

The 31-year-old was later substituted in the 49th minute of the match.

McHale and Co Solicitors, who are representing Willis, confirmed the existence of the lawsuit but declined to provide any further comment.

Boy, 17, arrested over attempted rape in Stalybridge

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after a woman was attacked as she walked through a park with her child.

A woman was pushed to the ground and attacked by a man carrying a knife as she walked through Stalybridge Country Park in Besom Lane, Millbrook at about 18:40 on Monday.

The man then fled the scene, police said.

The boy remains in police custody for questioning.

Man in court over body find in Urmston

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a body was found by police in Urmston.

Officers found Jia Li Huang, 63, in a property in Atkinson Road, at about 12:30 BST on Monday after being called to reports of an injured woman.

The woman had suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital.  

Lorand-Sebastian Zdarcea, 35, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody by Manchester magistrates to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday to face charges of murder and attempted murder.

A man has been charged with murder over the death of a man whose body was found by police.

The woman had suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital.

Romanians to join anti-slavery police

Police officers from Romania are set to work alongside Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to help tackle modern slavery involving children as young as nine years old.

Romanian children are being lured into the sex industry by traffickers with the hope of earning lots of money.

Romanian officers are expected to join GMP by the end of this year to help break the language barrier and "reassure" victims.

Romanian police to help Greater Manchester officers tackle modern slavery

Police officers from Romania are set to work alongside Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to help tackle modern slavery.

A Romanian hostel where sex traffic victims as young as 12 are cared for

The force said most victims trafficked into the area were from eastern Europe.

Det Ch Supt Russ Jackson, head of GMP's modern slavery unit, said Romanian officers could help break the language barrier and "reassure" victims once they join the force by the end of this year.

Iana Matei, who runs a shelter for human trafficking victims in Romania, explained how victims were coping at the hostel and why they were being lured into trafficking.
