Manchester's Victoria Baths celebrating its 110th birthday and is marking the occasion by unveiling its restored stained glass windows which overlook the pool.

The Zephyr stained glass window is almost 5m above the gala pool.

Victoria Baths - known as Manchester's Water Palace - is a Grade II listed Edwardian building. 

In 2003, it was awarded £3.4m for winning the first series of the BBC show Restoration.

Salford shooting: Three arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder 65-year-old woman

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder a 65-year-old woman who was shot in Salford.

Police said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the leg in the shooting on Billy Lane, Clifton, on Friday evening.

She was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains in a stable condition, said police.

A 23-year-old-man and an 18-year-old man remain in police custody for questioning while another man aged 23 has been bailed.

Travel: Accident causes M62 lane closure

One lane is closed and there is queuing traffic on the M62 eastbound between junction 18, M60 (Simister Island) and junction 19 (Heywood), because of an accident. 

It is causing congestion on the M60 to junction 15, M61 (Swinton Interchange).

Longer GP surgery hours takes pressure off A&E departments but 'costs more than it saves'

Keeping GP surgeries open longer means less pressure on A&E departments but it costs more than it saves, according to new research by the University of Manchester.

Patients who had access to GP surgeries with longer opening times at evenings and weekends visited A&E departments 11,000 fewer times, saving £767,976.

The savings equate to less than a quarter of the extra funds allocated to surgeries to extend their hours.

NHS England for Greater Manchester provided £3.1m for 56 GP surgeries to extend opening hours in 2014.

Rugby League: Leigh Centurions' given ban for assaulting officer

Leigh Centurions prop Sam Barlow has been given a four-year ban from sport for assaulting an anti-doping officer.

An independent panel found him guilty of "tampering with doping control".

Barlow, 28, pleaded guilty in court to assaulting the UK Anti-Doping Agency official, who visited his home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in July 2015.

The Scotland international released a statement on Wednesday saying he planned to lodge an appeal against his ban at the High Court.

Cricket: Tributes paid to former Lancashire player Ken Higgs

Former Lancashire and England cricketer Ken Higgs has died, aged 79.  

The right-arm fast bowler played 15 Tests and took 71 wickets in an international career between 1965 and 1968.

He made his Lancashire debut in 1958, taking more than 1,000 first-class wickets.

Football: Rashford scores hat-trick on his England U21 debut

Marcus Rashford scored a hat-trick on his England Under-21 debut as they thrashed Norway in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

The Manchester United man has scored on his debuts in the Premier League and Europa League, as well as for England's senior side and now the U21s.

The 18-year-old struck from 18 yards before adding a deflected second and scoring a penalty for his third.

Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker also scored.

Mother of baby girl 'punched in supermarket' praises staff

The mother of the five-day-old baby allegedly punched at a Tesco supermarket in Baguley has praised the staff at the store where it took place.

Mother Amy Duckers said Monday was the first time the family had taken baby Elsie Rose out since she was born.  

Ms Duckers praised Tesco staff at the supermarket the saying the way they had dealt with the situation was "amazing".  

Tesco said in a statement it was "deeply shocked and saddened" to hear about "this traumatic incident" and added it was "grateful for Amy’s kind comments".

A 63-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The Manchester United striker, 18, has scored on his debuts in the Premier League, Europa League, England's senior side and now the U21s.

"I wasn't surprised in any way," said Southgate of Rashford's three goals in the 6-1 win against Norway on Tuesday.

Rashford was not included in Allardyce's first senior squad, which beat Slovakia 1-0 on Sunday.  

Boxing: Fury's rematch with Klitschko announced

Tyson Fury's world heavyweight title rematch with Wladimir Klitschko has been confirmed for 29 October.

World champion Fury, 28, from Wythenshawe claimed the WBO, WBA and IBF belts from the 40-year-old Ukrainian in November 2015, but pulled out of a July rematch with an ankle injury.

The fight is at Manchester Arena.

"I'm delighted that we can finally get the fight back on. We can now focus on giving the fans what they deserve," said Fury's manager and uncle Peter.

Rhodes flight heading back to Manchester due to technical fault

A Jet2 aircraft which took off from Manchester Airport heading for Rhodes has returned to the airport "after detecting a technical fault".

Manchester Airport confirmed flight LS819 had landed safely at 12:15 almost two hours after its departure at 10:26. 

Jet2 said it was unable to provide any details on the incident.

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted burglary of Wayne Rooney's home as the footballer played his testimonial match.

Robert McNamara, 24,of Newby Farm Crescent, Scalby, Scarborough, stood in the dock at Cheshire Crown Court during a brief appearance.

The alarm at the England captain's property in Prestbury was reportedly triggered on 3 August as the charity tribute game took place at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Rooney's first club Everton.

Mr McNamara was bailed until a further hearing on 27 October.

Man arrested after five-day-old baby 'punched in supermarket'

A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a five-day-old girl at a supermarket in Manchester, police said.

Officers were called to the Tesco store on Altrincham Road in Baguley at about 18:45 on Monday, following reports a baby had been hit.

Mother of five Amy Duckers said it was the first time the family had taken baby Elsie Rose out since she was born.

Elsie, weighing 6lb 12oz, was taken to hospital and monitored overnight but is not believed to have been seriously injured.

A 63-year-old arrested on suspicion of assault is currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Imam murder accused 'friendly' with IS victim

A man accused of murdering an imam was "friendly" with a man beheaded by so-called Islamic State, a jury heard.

Mohammad Hussain Syeedy, who denies murdering Jalal Uddin in Rochdale, told Manchester Crown Court he knew aid worker Alan Henning, who died in Syria.

Mr Syeedy, 21, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, said he was "disgusted" at Mr Henning's killing by the terror group.

The Crown claims he played a key role in helping Mohammed Abdul Kadir, 24, bludgeon to death 71-year-old Mr Uddin.

Officers were called to the Tesco store in Altrincham Road, Baguley, at about 18:45 on Monday, following reports a child had been hit.

The baby girl was taken to hospital as a precaution and has since been discharged.

A 63-year-old arrested on suspicion of assault is currently in custody being questioned by officers.
