‘Growing Up North’ summit looks to improve children's lives

Local businesses, education leaders and politicians are to discuss how to reduce the North-South divide by improving the lives of the region's children.

Anne Longfield
OFFICE OF THE CHILDREN'S COMMISSION

The Growing Up North summit is led by Children's Commissioner Anne Longfield who says secondary school pupils in London and the South East are still making better progress than many of those in the north.

She said it should also be a priority for Manchester's newly-elected mayor to make sure children here have the same opportunities as their counterparts down south.

If we can start to understand why children do better in some parts of the country than others and what it is about the place they grow up in that supports them to succeed, we can begin to bridge the North-South divide that has been there for too long.
