'Most wanted' appears in court

One of Britain's most wanted fugitives allegedly involved in a £4bn drugs smuggling plot has appeared via video link in court.

Paul John Scott (pictured), appeared at Liverpool Crown Court charged with conspiracy to import cocaine.

The 32-year-old only spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing and was not asked to submit a plea.

A provisional trial date has been set for 15 June.

Murder investigation

Police launch a murder investigation and arrest two men aged 25 and 22 after the body of a teenager was found at a flat in St Helens.

Merseyside Police say they believe a New Year's Eve party was held at the flat in Parr before the death.

Emergency services said they found a "number of small fires inside the flat" which were extinguished by firefighters at about midday on 1 January.

Two arrested over body find

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in St Helens.

Merseyside Police say the teenager's body was found in a flat on Tickle Avenue in Parr on New Year's Day.

Police say it is not clear how he died and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Rail fare rise

Rail fare rises in England and Wales have come into effect, with trade unions complaining that the increases continue to outstrip wage growth.

Appeal for New Year's Day assault witnesses

We reported earlier that

an 18-year-old man was critically ill after being punched on New Year's Day in St Helens.

Det Ch Insp Sue Coombs says: "We know there were a number of people who were in the area at the time of the incident and we urgently need to speak to them as they may have vital information which could assist with our inquiries."

Anyone with information is urged by Merseyside Police to contact them on 101.

'Cherished every second'

Gerrard says he's taken the decision to leave Liverpool as he looks to "experience something different in my career and life".

He took the opportunity to thanks everyone at the club and the owners, as well as the supporters.

He says: "It has been a privilege to represent you, as a player and as captain. I have cherished every second of it and it is my sincere wish to finish this season and my Liverpool career on a high."
