Hillsborough: Final Anfield memorial service held

The final memorial service for the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster has been held in Liverpool.

The annual event has been held at Anfield since the tragedy in Sheffield on 15 April 1989.

In January, relatives of the victims said they had "unanimously agreed" this year's service would be the last.

A minute's silence was held across Liverpool at 15:06 BST - the time when the FA Cup semi-final was abandoned following a terrace crush.

Weather: Rain overnight, with sunshine and showers tomorrow

Rain will gradually clear away south-eastwards, with clear spells following from the north. 

This will allow temperatures to fall away, leading to frost and ice in places, especially inland and in rural parts.

Footballer guilty of contempt of court after tweeting about match

A semi-professional footballer, who was caught tweeting about playing football just 24 hours after making an insurance claim for whiplash, has admitted contempt of court.

Gary Burnett, who used to play for Northwich Victoria, made the claim after an accident at a drive-through restaurant in Birkenhead. The following day, he tweeted "nice little trek to Kendal later for footy." 

The 24-year-old from Wigan has been given a four month suspended prison sentence.

The sculpture was commissioned by Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, in cooperation with the Hillsborough Family Support Group in 2014 to mark the 25th Anniversary of Hillsborough. 

The art sculpture is a simple band representing the bond between the families, friends, survivors and fans and was designed by Julian J Taylor, working from Bridewell Studios, Liverpool.

Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, has addressed the crowds at Anfield.

He spoke about how he queued for hours to lay a scarf and flowers at the stadium 27 years ago.

Kenny Dalglish, Mayor Joe Anderson and the former Bishop of Liverpool will speak at the final memorial service to be held at Anfield. 

The bereaved families who organise the event unanimously agreed that this year's should be the last at the ground.

Shots fired a case of mistaken identity, say police

Shots fired at a house in Dingle could have been a case of mistaken identity, Merseyside Police has said. 

Officers were called to Darnley Street at 22:55 last night to reports of damage to a door and window of a house. No-one was injured. 

Patrols have been stepped up in the area.
