Weather: Dry with clear spells leading to a rural grass frost

BBC Weather

Overnight it will be staying mostly dry with some clear spells. The clear spells and light winds could lead to a touch of grass frost in the early hours, particularly in rural areas on the Wirral.

Much of Tuesday will be dry with sunny spells, but late in the afternoon cloud will increase from the west with some patchy rain arriving.

His landmark moment came in Iceland when he opened the scoring in a 5-0 win over K.R. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur in 1964.

Appeal for witnesses after cyclist found in critical condition in Sefton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was found unconscious on a grass verge in Lunt Road, Lunt, Sefton, near to the junction with Long Lane, on Sunday. The cyclist was found at about 11:25 by a member of the public and is in a critical but stable condition. Police believe he may have had a medical episode and officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen him to contact them.

Former soldier stabbed man seven times in fight over £10 unpaid gardening fee

A former soldier stabbed a man seven times in a fight after he believed he was short-changed after carrying out gardening work for a family in Old Swan.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder after a man died in a shooting in Everton.

Mark Hillman, 26, was shot twice in the back and was found on a pavement in Lloyd Close, Everton, on 27 April.

A 20-year-old, from Everton, has been taken into custody to be questioned by detectives.

Body found in search for missing man

The body of a man found on Saturday has been identified as that of missing 51-year-old Michael Kenneth Isherwood, police said.

Mr Isherwood had been missing from his home in Aylesbury Avenue, Prenton since Friday.

Some of the same officers and the same solicitor were involved in the South Yorkshire Police response to Hillsborough and the Battle of Orgreave, it has emerged.

Peter Metcalf was involved in defending the force against claims of unlawful arrest after the clash near Rotherham during the miners' strike in 1984.

He also played a key role in reviewing statements after Hillsborough.

Mr Metcalf did not wish to comment on Orgreave when approached by the BBC.

Liverpool fan warns of Europa League Final ticket scam

A Liverpool fan who bought fake tickets for Wednesday's Europa League final is warning others not to fall for the same scam. 

The supporter, who does not wish to be named, paid £700 for two passes for the game in Basel and although they looked real they have now turned out to be fake. 

He has reported the seller to the police and it has emerged several other fans have also fallen victim.

Man dies after being found injured by Wirral fishing lake

A man has died after being found injured by a fishing lake in Wirral.

The 37-year-old, from Birkenhead, was discovered in Claremont Farm, Spital, on Sunday morning following reports of a fight.

He died later in hospital.

Everton stadium move to Walton Hall Park scrapped

A plan to move Everton stadium to Walton Hall Park has been scrapped because is it "not viable in the current financial climate".

A joint statement was issued by Liverpool City Council and the Blues confirming the move has been shelved.

Two brown field sites, in north and east Liverpool, are now under consideration and Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson said he was confident a new stadium for Everton will be up and running in three years time.

Wirral Council 'wrong' to withdraw retirement gifts

A Merseyside council has said it "got it wrong" when it asked former staff to return their retirement gifts of free lifetime leisure passes.

About 400 former employees who had worked for more than 25 years at Wirral Council were told in March their passes would be withdrawn due to funding cuts.

In a letter to retired staff, council leader Phil Davies said "the decision to withdraw these passes may have made sense from a purely business perspective" but the authority "should honour" its commitment.

Man and his daughter found dead in Crosby house

Tests are being carried out on the bodies of an 85-year-old man and his daughter after they were found in Crosby.

The man and the 47-year-old woman were found dead inside a house in College Road on Sunday afternoon.

Their deaths are being treated as unexplained. They are not thought to be suspicious.

Man, 18, arrested over Birkenhead rape

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked in Birkenhead.

A 19-year-old woman was attacked in the early hours of Sunday in Borough Road, police said.

Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene.

The man, from Wirral, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
