Major route into Liverpool to close for repair works

A main route linking Liverpool and Sefton is set to close while work is carried out to replace a damaged bridge.

A section of Great Howard Street between Chadwick Street and the Mini Garage will close in both directions for around seven months from July. 

Diversions will be put in place. The closure is part of the first stage of a £32m project to improve the road for the new Liverpool 2 deep water port.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been fined by Uefa for illicit chants during their Europa League last-16 tie.

Both clubs have also been punished for the throwing of objects by fans and crowd disturbances, with United fined £44,342 and Liverpool £43,577.

Liverpool have also been sanctioned for setting off fireworks and a late kick-off, while United were charged for stairways blocked at their stadium.

Businesses in sites including Daresbury, Thornton Science Park near Ellesmere Port, Birchwood Park and Jodrell Bank fall within the Cheshire Science Corridor Enterprise Zone.

Firms will be given financial incentives, more access to help and super-fast broadband.

It is hoped the new zone will attract 500 new companies to the area, creating thousands of jobs.
