St Helens house fire was 'arson'

A fire at a house in Haresfinch, St Helens in the early hours of Thursday morning is being treated as an arson attack, police have confirmed.

Officers believe a container of flammable liquid was thrown at the house in Woodlands Road in a "deliberate and targeted attack" by two men wearing white helmets on a white scrambler bike who then drove off.     

Three Merseyside men jailed for dealing Class A drugs

Three men from Merseyside are among a gang of 15 people who've been jailed for dealing Class A drugs in Preston.

The group were arrested following an 11- month operation targeting the supply of heroin and cocaine.

David Mochrie, 39, from Prenton, Michael Dineley, 27 from Liverpool, and Stephen Foster, 27, from Liverpool all pleaded guilty to drugs offences.

Hillsborough families meet home secretary

Relatives of the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough disaster have held private meetings with the home secretary.

Theresa May spoke to the families in the wake of the Hillsborough inquests, which ended in April. 

The families were told about developments in two ongoing criminal investigations into the disaster. Jurors found the fans who died in the 1989 crush were unlawfully killed.

An 11-year-old girl left with a life-changing brain injury after she was hit by a car outside her school dreamed of becoming a surgeon, it has emerged.

The girl was among eight children hurt in the crash outside Belvedere Academy in Liverpool in February.

Hoylake's former Lifeboat station fails to sell at auction

Hoylake’s former lifeboat station – one of the oldest in the UK – has failed to sell at auction in Liverpool.

The red-brick building, which dates back to 1897, is situated on a site that has been home to a rescue boat and volunteer crew since 1803.

The operation moved to a new facility in Hoylake in 2008 and the old lifeboat station was turned into a museum, but that closed in 2015.

The building went under the hammer at Liverpool Town Hall on Thursday, but failed to meet its reserve price.

Easyjet plane from Liverpool diverted to Manchester

An Easyjet flight from Liverpool to Faro was diverted to Manchester this morning, where it has landed safely.

This is Manchester Airport's statement: 

"An EasyJet flight that took off from Liverpool Airport made an unscheduled divert to Manchester this morning. 

"The flight landed safely, which was met by fire crews as a standard precautionary measure. Anyone with specific queries should contact the airline directly.”

Teenage boy injured in Warrington collision - police seek driver

Cheshire Police are appealing for information after a driver failed to stop following a serious collision in Warrington which left a 15-year-old boy with face and leg injuries.

The collision took place at about 22.30 on Wednesday on the A57, Sankey Way, near to where the road crosses Sankey Valley Park.

Police are looking for a dark saloon car which is thought to have damage to the front nearside and to the windscreen.

The boy is in a stable condition in Alder Hey Hospital.

Tests prove triplets are identical

A mother from Liverpool has discovered her 10-month-old boys are "very rare" genetically identical triplets.

Becki Allen, 23, had been told she was expecting non-identical triplets when she was pregnant.

However, after people kept saying Rocco, Rohan and Roman were identical she had DNA tests done for "peace of mind".

Appeal for witnesses after Rice Lane shooting

Police patrols have been stepped up in Walton, Liverpool as detectives continue to investigate a shooting on Rice Lane yesterday. No-one is thought to have been injured in the incident but officers are investigating reports that a man with a handgun shot at the occupants of a small white van as it waited in traffic at about 11:00. The white van was then driven off towards Hornby Road, while the offender walked in the opposite direction, possibly getting into a silver-coloured Vauxhall Vectra. Detectives want to hear from anyone with information about either of the two vehicles.
