Weather: Muggy night and rain warning in store

There'll be plenty of dry and clear weather this evening and it may feel muggy for some as temperatures remain high. 

Tuesday's weather for Liverpool shows evening remains warm

But that's all set to change tomorrow as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in Merseyside and Cheshire with heavy and thundery downpours in the afternoon.

Liverpool-born playwright Sir Peter Shaffer, whose critical and popular successes in the West End and Broadway included Equus, Amadeus, and The Royal Hunt of the Sun, has died aged 90.

Man found dead in Southport lake identified

Police believe they have identified a man whose body was found in Southport Marine Lake on Saturday.

He is believed to be a 58-year-old man from the Merseyside area, and officers are now attempting to trace his next of kin.

Dog walkers trapped by rising tide on Wirral coast

A couple and their dog were rescued after being cut off by the tide on the Wirral coast.

The couple and their pet, Daisy, were trapped on a sandbank near Leasowe Lighthouse, with the RNLI New Brighton hovercraft responding to a call at 21:30 on Sunday.

Lifeguard Graham Sale said the couple were saved in time, but warned of the dangers of the quickly-rising tide.

Doreen Collyer: Australia shark death woman had emigrated from UK

A grandmother who died in a shark attack off the Australian coast had emigrated from the UK five years ago, it has emerged.

Former University of Chester lecturer Doreen Collyer, 60, was scuba diving in Perth when she was attacked on Sunday.

It is thought she was killed by a 16ft (5m) great white shark, ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has reported.

Plans for Liverpool Fruit, Veg and Flower Market unveiled

A plan to secure the future of Liverpool's Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Market has been unveiled.

Under the proposals, the market in Old Swan would move from Edge Lane to a new, as yet undecided site, including facilities designed to attract new traders and customers. 

The current site will be redeveloped to include a police building -replacing the one on Smithdown Lane - space to rebuild St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School and new homes on a brownfield site. 

The report will be considered by the council's cabinet on Friday.

Cheshire Police has begun its annual crackdown on drink and drug drivers.

Wirral charity calls for more support for carers

A charity which provides support to carers in Wirral is calling on the government to invest more money in the system. 

Research carried out nationally has found almost half of carers have struggled financially, while 51% say they've let a health problem of their own go untreated. 

The findings have been released as part of National Carers Week.

The house in Denham, Buckinghamshire, is set on 17 acres of land and boasts an indoor pool and spa, paddock, tennis court and a detached two-bedroom cottage with its own garage.

The 72-year-old singer, who was born in Liverpool, died in August 2015 after falling and hitting her head at her villa in Spain.

Cheshire woman, 60, killed in Australian shark attack

A "devoted and loving" British grandmother has been killed in a shark attack off the coast of Australia, according to reports.

University lecturer Doreen Collyer, 60, was scuba diving off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, on Sunday morning when she was reportedly attacked.

It is thought she was killed by a 16ft (five-metre) great white shark, according to ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).

The husband of Cheshire woman Doreen Collyer, who was killed in a shark attack in Australia, has paid tribute to a "devoted grandmother, mother and loving wife".

Ms Collyer and her husband David, originally from Chester, moved to Australia around five years ago, broadcaster ABC said.

Mr Collyer said in a statement: "Doreen was a beautiful person and everyone loved her. She was a devoted grandmother, mother and loving wife."

Her diving partner managed to pull her from the water but she died of her injuries at the scene, it was reported.

Tribute to drug death clubber 'beautiful' Stephanie Shevlin

The mother of a 22-year-old woman who died after taking drugs on a night out in Cheshire has paid tribute to her "beautiful and bubbly girl".

Stephanie Shevlin had been to the Box nightclub in Crewe on Saturday when she became ill. She died later in hospital.

University pays tribute to Cheshire woman killed in shark attack

The University of Chester has paid tribute to "hugely valued and loved member of staff" Doreen Collyer, who has been killed in a shark attack in Australia.

The 60-year-old worked at the Faculty of Health and Social Care for 15 years before moving to Australia.

In a statement Professor Annette McIntosh-Scott, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Care, said she will be remembered as someone with "a real commitment and passion for teaching and child healthcare - her students were at the heart of all she did".

The BBC understands Mrs Collyer had move do Australia to be near her children.

A 22-year-old woman who died after taken what's thought to be ecstasy at a Crewe club has been named as Stephanie Shevlin from Merseyside.

Police believe she suffered an adverse reaction after taking the drug MDMA while at The Box nightclub.
