Hospital staff make Star Wars mask for 10-year-old cancer patient

A 10-year-old Star Wars fan, who is being treated for brain cancer, has had a radiotherapy mask that resembles a Storm Trooper made by hospital staff.

Reece Holt, from Morecambe in Lancashire, is being treated at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Wirral after brain surgery.

The specially moulded mask is used to ensure patients stay still during radiotherapy treatment.

Each mask is made to measure and his parents said Reece was thrilled when he realised his had a Star Wars theme.

Call for 'Seaside Tsar' to save seaside towns

A "Seaside Tsar" should be appointed to help Britain's forgotten seaside towns like Southport recover from decades of decay, according to the British Hospitality Association (BHA).

The report says that people living in seaside towns are more likely to be poorly educated, unemployed, unemployable, lacking in ambition, claiming benefits and living in multiple occupation housing.   

The BHA has produced a seven-point action plan which calls on the government to take action.

Liverpool folk scene pay tribute to Stan Ambrose

Radio Merseyside's longest serving presenter has been described as a "folk hero" by an events organisation following his death.

In a tribute posted on Facebook Liverpool music events organisation Mellowtone said: 

"Wonderful company, a fine conversationalist and a fine musician. RIP Stan. A true folk hero. x x x "

Merseyside Police Chief Constable Andy Cooke is going back to his old school SFX College this morning to talk to pupils about policing.

Chief Constable Cooke started at St Francis Xavier’s College in Woolton in 1975.

He became a detective in 1989 and since then he has worked his way through the ranks as a detective at every level.

European Championships: Britian wins women's 4x400m title

Liverpool's Anyika Onuora wins gold as part of the 4x400m relay team at the European Championships in Amsterdam yesterday.

Onuora, Emily Diamond, Eilidh Doyle and Seren Bundy-Davies won the women's 4x400m title in three minutes 25.05 seconds.

Britain claimed 16 medals - including five golds - just seven shy of their personal best, 23 medals, in 2014.

Liverpool's Hope Street closed all week for graduation celebrations

Tour guides in Liverpool are unhappy about plans to close one of the city's major roads during Liverpool John Moores graduation ceremonies.

Hope Street will be closed between Mount Pleasant and Duke Street every day this week until Friday, from 06:00 to 20:00. 

It is hoped the road closure will create a festival atmosphere as students head to their graduation ceremonies at the Anglican Cathedral.

The grounding caused a problem with the propeller seal and the ship began to take on water.
