Wirral-based children's hospice plans new centre in Liverpool

Phil Cooper

Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside

Wirral-based Claire House Children's Hospice is planning to open a new centre in Liverpool.

The charity has signed an exclusivity agreement over a potential site in West Derby, close to Alder Hey Hospital.

The agreement is with the Carmelite Order of Nuns, who own the site on Honey's Green Lane.

It was signed in May, and gives bosses at Claire House several months to investigate how suitable it could be.

In a statement, the charity said it could provide a base for running its hospice to home and counselling services in around a year's time.

A spokesperson said the idea is part of an expansion plan - and that there has been no talk of any reduction in services at the centre in Wirral - if the charity does take over the building.
