The jury has failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a man accused of murdering a doorman outside a bar.

Daniel Fox, 29, from St Helens, Merseyside, was stabbed at the corner of Westfield Street and North John Street in the town on 2 September 2016.

A post-mortem examination found he died from a single stab wound to his body.

Leighton William Holt, 20, of Custley Hey, Stockbridge Village, who denied murder faces a retrial on 30 October at Liverpool Crown Court.

Owner sought after jewellery bag found in park

The owner of a collection of jewellery found in a park in Formby is being sought.

A jewellery bag that included brooches, necklaces and earrings was discovered by at about 07:30 on Monday in Duke Street Park.

Police have launched an investigation to find out whether the jewellery was accidentally dropped or stolen in a burglary.

Anyone who recognises the jewellery should contact Merseyside Police.

A cyclist has been knocked off his bike by wire stretched across a pathway on a Wirral promenade.

The man suffered cuts and bruises in the incident on Egremont Parade at about 21:20 last night - and police are treating it as assault.

Police Community Support Officers are now patrolling the area and an investigation has been launched.

Fire crews are working to find out what caused a blaze at a construction site in Sefton.

A large quantity of plastic was alight in Leighton Avenue, Maghull, yesterday evening causing black plumes of smoke to billow out across the area.

Six arrested in Cheshire drugs raids

Six people have been arrested by Cheshire Police this morning as they carried out raids targeting suspected crime gangs who deal drugs. 

Homes in Runcorn, Widnes, Ellesmere Port, Warrington and Winsford are now being searched. 

Today's operation follows raids two weeks ago in which 13 people were arrested and charged in connection with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
