Today our main story has been on the death in Spain of Sam Alger from Necton, near Swaffham.

Mr Alger, 25, had been at an Elrow club night at a venue on the outskirts of Barcelona, before he disappeared.

His body was discovered by Spanish police yesterday in fields close to the club and an autopsy is under way.

Reports on social media suggest an altercation took place outside the venue after the event was over, Police say there are investigating to see if there is any connection with Mr Alger's death.

In happier news, a treehouse recommended for destruction by planners because it didn't have planning permission has been saved by councillors.

We also revealed Norwich City's new fixtures from the forthcoming season.

Have a good evening. The team are back from 08:00 tomorrow.

Next time you go for a coffee... could be sitting next to a top author!

Alex Scarrow, best known for his fantasy book series, Time Riders, lives in Norwich with his family and says he likes likes to write his novels in one of the city's coffee shops.

Alex Scarrow

"I used to write at home, but I got terribly lonely," he says.

"My routine tends to be a large cappuccino and a triple chocolate muffin, and, by the time both have gone, I've usually written 1,500 words - and then it's back home to put up a shelf."

Weather: Warm, humid with thundery showers

It'll be warm and humid this evening with some hazy sunshine. The night will be muggy but will probably stay dry. Some heavy, thundery showers could affect some parts around dawn, with local torrential downpours possible. Lows of 16C (61F).

Weather map

Heavy showers or thunderstorms remain a risk during rush hour tomorrow but these will clear during the morning to give a cloudy, warm and humid day for most of us with some brighter spells. Highs of 21C (70F)

RSPCA advise on how to deal with 'lost' kids...

The RSPCA has issued advice about how to handle young deer after it was called out to a baby deer that was alone in someone's garden at Market Weston, near Diss.

Baby deer

Officer Jason Finch was called out to the young roe deer, checked it over and called East Winch wildlife centre near King's Lynn for advice.

He said: “Whilst it may look as though a young deer has been abandoned, actually their mother will only visit them once or twice a day and is out feeding the rest of the time. This could happen at night which means you’d almost never see the kid being tended to.

“Now we are entering into summer it may be more usual to see young deer but unless they are in immediate danger or showing signs of injury we would advise members of the public just to monitor from a safe distance to see if mum returns."

Boy's treehouse saved from the axe

Katy Prickett

BBC News

A man's efforts to save his son's treehouse have paid off after councillors went against a recommendation to take it down.

Chris Mack

Chris Mack built the den for his son James at his parents' home in Harleston three years ago.

South Norfolk Council discovered it in December and said it infringed the privacy of neighbouring properties - despite receiving no complaint from neighbours.

The authority's planning committee said the concerns were not "sufficient" enough to warrant removing it.

Mr Mack said the news was "unbelievably fantastic".

Sam Alger death: Club says no major incident after dance night ended

Guy Hedgecoe

Freelance journalist

I've spoken to a representative of the venue where the Elrow dance night took place about reports of an altercation outside after the event ended.

They have very much played down reports of this.

They said there was no incident to speak of but there were lots of people leaving the nightclub at the same time with people trying to get buses and taxis back to Barcelona.

The club nights are very popular with both locals and tourists and the venue is just 15 minutes from Barcelona city centre.

Sam Alger death: Police probe reports of altercation outside club

Guy Hedgecoe

Freelance journalist

I'm a freelance journalist based in Spain and I've been speaking with the local police about Sam Alger's death.

They said they're not ruling anything out but insist that first impressions suggested there were no signs of violence on Sam's body and they're awaiting the results of an autopsy, the results of which should be known in a few days.

Police also told me they found Sam's body in fields surrounded by irrigation ditches. Some of his friends have been posting comments on social media saying that he drowned but police told me there was confusion over what actually happened on Sunday night, the night he went missing.

They are also investigating reports of an altercation outside the Elrow nightclub venue to see if there's any connection with Sam's disappearance.

Sam Alger's body 'showed no signs' of violence

Freelance journalist Guy Hedgecoe, based in Spain, has spoken to local police in the area where Sam Alger died.

This is what they told him:

  • Mr Alger's disappearance was reported on Monday afternoon and police found his body at about midday yesterday
  • It was found in an "agricultural park" where crops were growing
  • They are waiting for an autopsy report which could take a few days but his body showed "no signs" of any violence

Looking ahead to the Championship

Richard Hancock

BBC Radio Norfolk sport

It's life back in the Championship for the Canaries following relegation from the Premier League last season.

Norwich City

They'll join Newcastle United and Aston Villa, and among their other opponents will be the newly-promoted teams from League 1: Wigan Athletic, Barnsley and Burton Albion.

Albion were only promoted to the Football League in 2009.

There will, of course, be the return of the East Anglian Derby as Norwich face Ipswich for the first time since beating them in the Championship Play-off semi-finals in 2015.

This morning's list will be subject to tweaks once the TV companies have their pick.

Norwich hoping for better start - and finish - than last year

The Canaries will be hoping to make a better start to this season than their Premier League dream did last time round.

The clock is ticking...

BBC Local Live

Norwich City fans can start making plans for next season as the fixture list is released at 09:00 this morning.

Carrow Road

The season starts on the weekend of 6 August - fans will be only too aware Norwich haven't won an opening day fixture since 2002.

This time last year the club were in the Premier League looking to play Crystal Palace, where of course they lost at home 3-1.

Fingers crossed they can break the 14-year losing streak.

The games fans will be looking out for

Norwich fans will be poised over Ceefax (or something like that) at 09:00 as the Championship fixtures are revealed.

As well as looking out for the opening and closing day matches, fans will be keen to know where they'll be headed for the ever popular Boxing Day fixture - last year the Canaries suffered a 3-0 set-back at White Hart Lane.

And, of course, fans will be waiting to see when they take on arch rivals Ipswich Town...
