Weather: Showers clearing but returning tomorrow

Scattered showers gradually fading away this evening to leave most places dry for a time with clear intervals with temperatures dipping to 5C (41F).


Saturday will start cloudy with outbreaks of rain, gradually clearing eastwards to leave a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers for the afternoon with temperatures reaching highs of 11C (52F).

Former school becomes dance school two years after closing

Great Houghton School, which closed in 2014, has been converted into a dance school which is due to open this weekend.

Estha Jones was a dance teacher at Woolaston School and wanted a place to call her own.

It took her six years to find the right place and is currently rehearsing with her first students for the event tomorrow.

Jets that caused sonic boom were sent to intercept aircraft

A loud bang heard over Northamptonshire this afternoon was a sonic boom caused by two jets flying over the county.

In the past few minutes, an RAF spokesperson told BBC Radio Northampton two RAF Typhoon aircraft jets were scrambled from RAFConingsby, in Lincolnshire, to intercept a civilian aircraft which wasn't responding to radio messages.

The aircraft was escorted safely to Cardiff airport.

Loud bang heard in Northampton with reports buildings shaking caused by 'sonic boom' from jets

A loud bang has been heard in various parts of Northampton - including Brickmills, Kingsthorpe, and Brixworth. Some people have also reported that doors and windows shock from the bang.

Northants Fire and Rescue tell us they got confirmation from RAF Wittering that it was two jets which created a sonic boom. 

They say they have been inundated with calls.

Northampton school is building playground on its roof

A school in Northampton is giving "play time" a high rise twist by building a playground on its roof.

Abington Vale Primary School is building on the roof of Stirling campus. The building is a converted office block and one of several school developments of non-school buildings in the town.

Man dies after being hit by a lorry in Daventry

A pedestrian has died in a collision in Daventry this morning that involved a heavy goods vehicle.

The man died at the scene of the incident which happened at about 09.30 in Ashby Road, near to Langdon Close.

Investigations into how the collision occurred are taking place in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive, police said.

Ashby Road, near the junction of Langdon Close, remains closed and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

A6 closed both ways in Desborough

The A6 is closed in both directions between the Braybrooke Road junction and the A6 Harborough Road junction because of accident involving two cars.

Weather: Bright spells but showers coming

Music festival organised by Bob Harris at Silverstone cancelled

A country music festival planned for Silverstone has been cancelled.

The Under the Apple Tree festival was due to have taken place during the bank holiday weekend at the end of May.

The broadcaster, Bob Harris - who was behind the festival - says that ticket sales had not kept up with costs and he's had to cancel it "with a heavy heart".

Council wants Greyfriars to be 'the right thing for Northampton'

The leader of Northampton Borough Council says they "want to take more time to consider the future of the Greyfriars site and want to get it right", after they delayed the release of proposals for the former bus station site which was demolished more than a year ago.

Northamptonshire hit by trio of injuries ahead of new season

Old Greyfriars bus station site in Northampton proposals delayed

Northampton Borough Council have said that proposals from developers for the Greyfriars site for development will not be put on display next week as originally planned.


The council say they now "hope" to put proposals on display during the summer and make a final decision in the early autumn.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is 'all cleaning' says 17-year-old sufferer

Oliver Wilson from Apethorpe, near Oundle, is 17 and lives with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - a mental health condition where a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive activity.

He's one of 740,000 people in the UK who have the condition - and says there needs to be better understanding of OCD.

He told me people think the condition is "all Kim and Aggie"...

Members of the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) have voted in favour of continuing to discuss Silverstone Circuit with Jaguar Land Rover.

The deal, discussed at an emergency meeting yesterday, is thought to offer the prospect of a £33m injection in return for a 249-year lease on the circuit.

The BRDC will still own the company which runs the British Grand Prix and pay the cost of hosting the event which costs about £18m a year.

Police have confirmed that the body found in bushes on Billing Brook Road, Northampton, in January is 32-year-old Adeyemi Olugbuyi. He was last seen in the area in September 2013.

A murder inquiry was launched following the discovery of the body on Tuesday, 26 January 2016.Two men, aged 43 and 29, from Northampton, were arrested in February on suspicion of murder and released on bail pending further inquiries.
