Dementia-friendly film screenings planned for Northampton and Corby

Northampton's Errol Flynn Filmhouse and the Core at Corby Cube are to show "dementia-friendly" screenings from Tuesday, which will be Dementia Awareness Week.

The 1952 film classic Singin' In The Rain will be shown at both cinemas. There will be a 20-minute interval midway through the film and there will be no adverts or trailers.

Lighting in the auditorium will be raised slightly and sound levels reduced. Audience members will also be encouraged to sing along and song sheets will be handed out.

Work begins on new police centre near Kettering

Construction work has begun on a new police "accommodation and investigation centre" between Corby and Kettering.

Chief Constable Simon Edens says the new centre, on the North Kettering Business Park, will see staff transferred from Wootton Hall.

"Our current plans are to relocate many of the people currently based at headquarters in Northampton to this new facility," he said.

Plans have been revealed for 2,000 homes off Sandy Lane near Duston, Northampton. The site is currently farmland.

Bloor Homes have written to nearby local authorities for help with the preliminary work they need to do before submitting a planning application for the new development.

As well as homes, there would be a local centre and one or two schools. It would take about 18 years to build.

Travel: Replacement bus service after gas leak

A gas leak between Leicester and Market Harborough is causing disruption of East Midlands Trains through Northamptonshire. 

A replacement bus service is running between Leicester and Kettering and between Corby and Kettering.

There is a reduced service in both directions between Sheffield and London St Pancras.

The process of moving Northamptonshire Police out of its current headquarters could cost £6.9m.

The money is being set aside by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to leave the current Wootton Hall site and improve other police buildings which will house staff.

Work is starting on a new accommodation and investigation centre between Corby and Kettering.

Purse snatcher could be responsible for thefts in five counties

Northamptonshire Police say a man accused of taking two purses in the county could be responsible for similar thefts in Leicestershire, Surrey, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Sgt Micki Simons, of Northamptonshire Police, said: "Although on the face of it these crimes appear to be minor, they have had a significant impact on the victims who are elderly women."

BreakingTravel: Disruption on East Midlands Trains through Northamptonshire

East Midlands Trains say a "significant" gas leak near the railway line means trains are unable to run between Leicester and Market Harborough.  

There is a 50% reduction in trains on the route between London, Nottingham and Sheffield including those through Northamptonshire.

Corby trains to and from London will start and terminate at Kettering. All trains will call at Kettering.

Some trains will be diverted or cancelled at short notice.

Department for Work and Pensions could move into Corby Cube

Police searching for missing man focus on reservoir

Police officers are concentrating their search for a missing man on the area around Pitsford Reservior.

Colin Addington, 55, was last seen at about 08:30 on Tuesday in Northampton, but his van was found parked at Pitsford Reservoir yesterday lunchtime after he failed to arrive at work.

Officers have been searching on foot as well as making use of the police helicopter. They say it is out of character for Mr Addington to go missing.

These figures are calculated from declared spending of items more than £500. His actual expenditure will be higher.

Shock as Wilder move breaks down

The assumption was that Chris Wilder would be the next manager for Charlton Athletic.  

He'd been allowed to speak to the London club and the Cobblers' chairman, Kelvin Thomas said he would be "surprised" if a deal wasn't done. 

An announcement was expected from Charlton, but when it came it wasn't the one we were expecting. Instead the news was that talks have broken down.

Kelvin Thomas: There's more interest in Wilder and Knill

Northampton Town chairman Kelvin Thomas has issued a statement after news that manager Chris Wilder's move to Charlton has broken down

"We understand there is further interest in Chris and Alan, however we have had no official approach at this point but I will be sitting down with Chris to discuss further," he said.

"As we said on Monday, and in the best interests of the club, we are keen for this matter to be brought to a conclusion as quickly as possible."

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder will not be heading to Charlton Athletic, according to a statement published on Charlton's website.

The club had been given permission to speak to Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill.

The statement says: "Following discussions with Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill over the vacant managerial role at The Valley, the club has been unable to reach an agreement."

Northamptonshire's outgoing police and crime commissioner (PCC) has confirmed the sale of police headquarters at Wootton Hall has gone through. The building is due to be used as a school.

Adam Simmonds leaves office as PCC later today to be succeeded by fellow Conservative Stephen Mold.

Mr Simmonds said the sale was completed yesterday: "I no longer own the HQ building. It is now owned by the Education Funding Agency."

Adam Simmonds leaves office as PCC later today. Commissioners have to publish spending on items costing more than £500. Those items amount to more than £7m.

His replacement as PCC, fellow Conservative Stephen Mold, has promised to spend less, but Mr Simmonds says that might not be possible: "It's very easy to say I'm going to cut this and cut that when you're seeking an election, but I justify all our expenditure as being necessary."

They are among more than 13,000 suspected and convicted criminals subject to outstanding arrest warrants in England.

In total, 441 warrants are outstanding in the county - while 969 out of 1,237 issued were successfully executed last year.

Commissioners have to publish spending on any items costing more than £500. We've added up the cost of those items - although the overall spending of office would have been higher during his tenure.
