Risk to patients if medical centre re-opens, judge rules

A GP surgery in Nottingham will continue to stay closed after a tribunal judge ruled there's a risk to patients if it re-opens.

The St Mary's Medical Centre in Top Valley was shut in February after the Care Quality Commission said it failed to meet expected standards.

An appeal against the decision has been heard today.

Man in court over pub rapes

A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of rape a year apart, police have said.

The 28-year-old, of Lincoln, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Monday.

The charges relate to incidents in a room above The White Hart pub in Newark on Thursday 9 April, 2015, and Friday 1 April, 2016.

He was remanded into custody until his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court in May.

New CBBC football show filmed in city

A new CBBC football drama, filmed in and around Nottingam, is due to air at the same time as Euro 2016, the channel's announced.

Jamie Johnson, which features a cameo from Notts County's Roy Carroll, is about a boy who lives and breathes football and is based on a book of the same name by former FA editor Dan Freedman.

Hillsborough inquests jury out

The jury at the Hillsborough inquests into deaths of 96 Liverpool fans has been sent out to start deliberating after hearing two years of evidence.

One question asks if the fans were unlawfully killed in the 1989 disaster when Liverpool had been due to play Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final on 15 April 1989.


Jurors will also decide if fans' behaviour added to a dangerous situation outside the stadium in Sheffield.

Figures by Zoopla show that purchasing a property is easier on the pocket in almost half of British cities.

Man jailed for attempting to meet teen in police sting

A 52-year-old man was jailed yesterday for three years for attempting to arrange to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Colin Barber, of Blidworth, admitted attempting to meet a child for sexual activity at an earlier hearing, as well as three counts of possessing indecent images of children.

He must sign the sex offenders register for life.

Barber was involved in a lengthy text message conversation over a number of weeks with the girl, who was actually a specially trained officer.

Nottinghamshire Police said Barber’s messages left no doubt he was well aware the girl was underage, writing: “You OK to sex? I am 50 you are 13.”

'Inappropriate' comedian gets new gig in Ashfield

You may remember controversial comedian Roy "Chubby" Brown being banned from a council-run venue in Kirkby last month because he was deemed "inappropriate".

Well his agent has told us he's found an alternative venue in nearby Sutton - The Grosvenor Rooms in October.

His agent said: "It was only sad the council couldn't overturn but we still won. We are playing Sutton."

Crash death arrest: Police still seeking witnesses

Police couldn't say whether the man arrested was the second biker they put out an appeal to find after the fatal crash this morning.

They are still appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen the crash at 06:30 in front of the petrol station near the junction with Meadow Lane.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the fatal crash on the A612 Daleside Road in Sneinton this morning.

A motorcyclist, in his 50s, died at the scene. The road remains closed towards Carlton.

Bulwell incident: Man dies after arrest

Nottinghamshire Police said they received a call at around 10:40 about a man whose behaviour was "giving cause for concern" in Hoefield Crescent, Bulwell yesterday.

The man was arrested but due to concerns for his health, an ambulance was also called and he was treated by paramedics at the scene 

However he died shortly after arriving at the QMC.

"His death is not believed to be suspicious. No one else was injured, but some damage to property, including vehicles, has been reported," police said.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Police contact IPCC over 'naked rampage' death

A man has died in hospital after a naked rampage in Bulwell. Damage was caused to property and vehicles in the Holwood Court area on Tuesday morning.

A red jacket will be raised on a flag pole at Nottingham Castle this morning to mark the day in 1812 when British forces captured the Spanish city of Badajoz during the Napoleonic Wars.

Lieutenant James MacPherson, of the 45th Nottinghamshire Regiment, should have replaced the French flag at the top of the Spanish castle with a Union Jack. 

But it had been lost during fighting, so he flew his red jacket instead.

Police say another motorcycle was being ridden "in close proximity" to the bike of the victim at the time. 

The rider of the second bike did not stop at the scene - they said they're trying to trace that biker.

The A612 Daleside Road road remains closed in Sneinton going out of Nottingham after a fatal crash near the Meadow Lane junction.

There's heavy traffic on the inbound side between Colwick Loop Road junction and Meadow Lane as a people slow down past the accident.

And queuing traffic on Sneinton Hermitage inbound between Sneinton Boulevard and the A612 Manvers Street junction.


Forest lose to Reading
