Nature reserve marking 50 years

The fantastic Attenborough Nature Reserve is marking its 50th anniversary this weekend.

It was opened in 1966 by Sir David Attenborough, who has sent a special message of support to be read out at a series of special events.

Burglars steal bank cards while OAP sleeps

Just awful - burglars broke into the home of a 94-year-old woman as she slept and then drained her bank account of cash, police have said.

The victim, woke to find someone had forced a rear window of her bungalow in Sutton Bonington and stolen a purse, cash and a gold pendant necklace. 

Her stolen bank cards were used at the Co-op in Market Place, Kegworth and at Morrisons in Maxwell Drive, Loughborough, that night.

Police said she was left "extremely shaken".

Paedophile's wife sentenced for misusing council computers

The wife of a notorious paedophile's been given a 12-month suspended prison sentence for illegally accessing information about his victims. 

Andris Logins raped and assaulted several girls and boys at the children's home where he worked in Nottingham.

Today at Nottingham Crown Court his wife, Helen, admitted misusing council computers before he went on trial.

Her sentence has been suspended for 18 months.

A man has been arrested after a series of thefts of railway cable that caused severe delays to train services in Nottingham, Netherfield and Long Eaton.

The 35-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of theft in Bulwell yesterday, has since been bailed, British Transport Police said.

Det Insp Gareth Davies said investigations are ongoing and officers are still patrolling the areas that were targeted.

It's all thanks to Richard and Michelle, who started the charity Forever Stars when their baby girl Emily was stillborn.

Lenton fire: Warehouse leaseholder sought

Police are trying to contact the leaseholder of the disused warehouse in Lenton that was destroyed by fire in a suspected arson attack this week.

They believe the building in Faraday Road was targeted by burglars before it was set alight on Wednesday.

While the owner of the building has contacted police, the current named leaseholder is now being sought as a victim of crime, police said.

The building was formerly operating as S&P Casuals and it is clothing which has been stolen by thieves.

Lenton fire: Burglary arrests made

Two more teenagers have been arrested following the suspected arson attack on a disused warehouse in Lenton.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and also bailed pending further enquiries.

An 18-year-old-man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on Wednesday shortly after the blaze in Faraday Road, and have since been bailed.

New mum says hospital errors left her fighting for life

A Nottinghamshire mum says a catalogue of errors left her fighting for her life after she gave birth at City Hospital. 

Tracy Murphy, from Stapleford, contracted a potentially fatal blood infection and says she was sent home with the wrong medication.

A few days later she was rushed into hospital haemorrhaging blood and had to spend another two weeks there.

Alison Atkinson, head of midwifery at the NHS trust that runs the hospital, said: "She's experienced a traumatic birth and some trauma post-birth but sounds as if we haven't communicated as well as we might have done."
