'Real-life adventures have taken place beneath city streets'

Calum McKenzie

BBC Local Live

Cave
Royal Geographical Society

Nottingham may be world famous as the home of Robin Hood but real-life adventures have taken place beneath the city’s streets. Hidden below homes, shops, offices and gardens are over 540 caves which owe their existence to Nottingham’s geology. The sandstone caves, each one carved by hand, are a direct result of people shaping the landscape to fit their needs. Through Discovering Britain, we are hoping to encourage as many people as possible to learn more about Nottingham’s remarkable caves."
