Sutton Domino's incident 'burglary'

Police have told us a bit more about the van that was crashed into Domino's in Sutton.

The fire service attended the scene and extinguished a blaze that had taken hold of the vehicle, which has since been recovered.

A Notts Police spokesman said the incident is being investigated as a burglary and they are appealing for witnesses.  

Man, 89, charged with 50-year-old sex offences

A man has been charged with historical sex offences, alleged to have taken place at a school in Nottinghamshire between October 1958 and December 1961.

Dennis Young, 89, from York, was charged on Thursday with nine counts of indecently assaulting a child aged under 14, at Skegby Hall School.

The charges all relate to the same victim.

He's set to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court next month.

Imogen Skirving: Your tributes

Tributes have been pouring in on Facebook and Twitter for the Langar Hall owner Imogen Skirving, who's died after being hit by a car in Menorca.

John Manson wrote on Facebook: "How very sad. Langar Hall was made in to a special place thanks to Imogen."

Imogen Skirving death: Ex-pat 'arrested'

More details have emerged over the death of Langar Hall owner Imogen Skirving.

Her nephew William Huskinson said she was walking home from the beach when she, her daughter Louise and her friend Maggie Hall were hit by a car.

Mr Huskinson said the driver, a 74-yea-old British ex-pat, has been arrested.

Louise Skirving and Ms Hall remain in hospital.

Police say it happened in Station Street at about 03:20.

Nottingham 'suffered badly' at Somme

Nine ex-pupils from Nottingham High School died at the Somme and another 26 casualties are included on a memorial at the school, which was unveiled in the 1920s.

It will be rededicated during a service at 12:00 today.

"Nottingham did suffer very badly on 1 July because of the involvement of the Nottingham Battalions at Gommecourt," Mr Williams, a history and politics teacher at the school, said.

"It must have been a very sad time for many teachers who taught these boys at school just a few years before."

Imogen Skirving, who's died in a car crash in Menorca, opened Langar Hall as a bed and breakfast in the 1980s and developed it into one of the county's leading hotels. 

We understand she was holidaying with her family when she was hit by a car on Wednesday evening.

Other celebrity guests she's welcomed at the 19th Century house, built on the site of a former medieval castle, have included actress Keira Knightley, the Archbishop of Canterbury and a visiting English cricket team.

Whistles echo signal to soldiers 100 years ago

On 1 July 1916, whistles were blown up and down the trenches along the Allied side of the Somme to start what would be the bloodiest day the British Army has ever experienced.

In Bingham this morning, the Royal British Legion held a ceremony in which three short blasts on a whistle were made to remember the fallen soldiers, followed by a minute’s silence.

Somme: Memorial to Nottingham ex-upils

A memorial to nine ex-pupils fatally injured on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, is to be held later at Nottingham High School.

The soldiers, who all attended Nottingham High School, were aged between 18 and 28 when they were killed in 1916.

One of those men was William Walker, whose skeleton was found on barbed wire in March 1917 - almost a year after he died at Gommecourt on 1 July.

Battle of the Somme remembered 100 years on

Today marks 100 years since the Battle of the Somme: The First World War battle that saw almost 20,000 men killed and thousands more injured in just one day.

It was the bloodiest battle in British military history and those who died came from towns and villages across the UK, including here in Nottinghamshire.
