Manager Kevin Nolan has said Notts County's remarkable revival is down to having intelligent players who learn quickly.

The Magpies had lost 10 League Two games in a row when Nolan was  appointed on 12 January  and were just one point and one place above the bottom two.

But the  win at second-placed Plymouth Argyle  was their fourth in nine games under Nolan and took them eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Nottinghamshire Police said it was still trying to work out the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death following the incident in Bramcote.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug and was further arrested in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

She has since been released on bail. 

Another boy, 14, who was also at the property on Sloan Drive on Monday, remains in hospital in a stable condition.

An investigation has begun into the death of a 13-year-old boy following an incident at a property in Bramcote.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to a property on Sloan Drive in the early hours of Monday. 

The teenager died last night.

Medals of WWI soldier William Peniston fetch £14,000

The medals of a World War One soldier who was decorated for gallantry three times in three weeks - probably without firing a shot - have sold at auction for £14,000.

The collection was expected to fetch between £8,000 and £10,000.

The body of a 33-year-old man has been found in a flat in Russell Street, Radford.

Nottinghamshire Police said chemicals were found in the property and the block of flats was evacuated as a precaution. 

The man's death was not being treated as suspicious, the force said.

Stroke patient died after surgery denial 'over lack of beds'

A woman died after a hospital did not accept her for neurosurgery citing an intensive care bed shortage, an inquest heard.

Teresa Dennett, 58, needed surgery after a stroke and the coroner concluded "it is likely she would have survived" if the operation went ahead.

Nottingham University Hospitals said its intensive care unit was full and suggested she should go to Sheffield.

But NHS England said a lack of beds was not a reason for refusing admission.

Evans set for Monfils test in Dubai

Nottingham-based Dan Evans is back in action at the Dubai Tennis Championships later when he takes on world number 12 Gael Monfils.

Evans, 26, who trains at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, beat Dustin Brown on Tuesday to book his place in the last 16.

Stab victims 'being stitched back up by vets,' youth worker says

Some stabbing victims are paying veterinarians to treat their injuries, according to youth workers in Nottingham.

The victims are reluctant to go to hospital because they do not want to the police to know they were stabbed.

Nottingham boxing coach Marcellus Baz (pictured), who also runs knife crime workshops, said he knows of several victims locally who have been "stitched up" by vets.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons said it could not confirm if it had complaints about vets treating stab wounds due to confidentiality.

Three companies set to bid for East Midlands rail franchise

Three companies have qualified for the chance to bid to run the East Midlands rail franchise, the Department for Transport has announced.

Arriva Rail East Midlands, First Trenitalia East Midlands Rail and Stagecoach East Midlands Trains are the three companies looking to run the services from November 2018. 

Each company will soon be invited to bid and they will then be assessed for what passenger benefits they offer and whether they represent value for money.
